Math Craft Inspiration of the Week: The Mathematical Lego Sculptures of Andrew Lipson. Andrew Lipson builds sculptures based off of Mathematical objects using standard Lego bricks. He has built models of knots, Mobius strips, Klein bottles, Tori, Hoberman spheres (using Lego technic pieces), and recreations of M.C. Escher works. Below are a few images and brief descriptions of his amazing work. Mobius Strip: Another Mobius strip with Lego men walking on one side of it—the only side! Klein bottle (The 2d equivalent of the Mobius Strip with only one surface instead of an inside and outside. I made these for my sister's classroom, where they are doing a monthlong study of weather. It's lovely to have a sister who allows me to make cute little projects for her and her students. And I get to share the fun with you! To make a set of weather cards for your house (or classroom!) So that they hold up after more than one time of lacing them, I laminated the cards and trimmed them so the edges are sealed. ooooooh...shiny! As seen on Deceptology blog, company called Quaker Oats published an interesting advertising booklet way back in 1895. This vintage booklet contained 25 nursery rhymes, but more importantly there was a DIY optical illusion puzzle printed on its front cover. I thought about breaking out my actual paper products to decorate the covers, but I didn't want embellishments that would get tattered or broken, so I opted for a digi cover. Here are my two books.
