This fabulous find was a table leaf. It is very old, has a rusty old hinge at the top and dowel pegs on one side to fit in as a table extension. I thought if I stood it up on one end... and stapled a piece of cotton ribbon between the pieces, it would open only partially... I thought it would make a great menu board... So I taped off the part I wanted to make into a chalkboard... and drew and painted on the word "menu",then distressed it a little...

I've tried the patch to help me quit...but i ended up painting that too!... But i can say...that i've never painted anything that's portable...you know...for me to get my chalkboard fix at anytime!.... Well...that's about to change!... Introducing chalkboard rings!.... Wowser...that sounded a little infomercial-ish... just ended up taking an 1" inch wooden disks...and painted 'em with a couple of coats of chalkboard paint...then slapped a ring blank on the back!... Last fall I spray painted some books because I was going for a monotone look. You can see that post here. I decided to give chalkboard spray paint a try. I painted one of my previously painted books. I gave it 2 coats of paint. 3 would be even better, but I ran out of paint. Don’t ya just “love” it? But it can be!! Supplies needed: Non-Sanded tile grout (Can be found at your local hardware store) Your paint color of choice A small paint brush Painters Tape I was really just testing this out so I did not make a big batch. I used 1 tablespoon of tile grout and half a cup of acrylic paint. Figure out what you will be putting this chalkboard paint on. Take your tape and mark off what you want to paint (Or where you do NOT want the paint). Now take your tile grout and paint mixture and stir it up really good to make sure there are no lumps. Start painting! Allow to dry and then you are ready to "chalk it up".

And like I said, I was just "testing" this out so I did not finish my platter. I'm placing this in my bathroom. **For every half cup of paint that you use just add another tablespoon of grout. My Trendy Tykes: Get creative with Chalkboard paint.
