If you choose to sit in a chair instead (which is totally fine), simply sit with your feet flat on the floor. You might want to place a cushion under your feet to elevate your knees so they are parallel with your hip bones.Try to scoot forward so your back isn’t leaning against anything. What does it take to really, truly establish a meditation practice? I have 7 suggestions. Four important things to remember about your meditation practice. I first met farmer, author, entrepreneur, thinker, and self-described “Christian-conservative-libertarian-environmentalist-lunatic” Joel Salatin at his rural Virginia farm, Polyface, in 2009.

We sat in rocking chairs in his home office and talked about everything from food and agriculture to law, regulations, and the Bill of Rights. I’ve seen Salatin several times since—in Washington, DC, and Little Rock, Arkansas and, most recently, back at his farm—and have even invoked his unsubsidized farming practices to argue that he and farmers like him should serve as the model for supporters of sustainable agriculture—meaning farming that eschews government subsidies while both minimizing environmental impacts and also turning a profit. Salatin’s books include Everything I Want to Do is Illegal, probably the best book on the crushing regulatory burden faced by small- and medium-sized farmers in America.

Full Disclosure: Salatin is a member and supporter of my nonprofit, Keep Food Legal. Is Eating Meat Sustainable For Everyone? : Real Food University. I set the stage last week with a post announcing the series that Mike and I are starting this week. Basically, we’re going to be taking on the Primal/Paleo lifestyle from several angles, looking at sustainability. We think this is kind of a “million dollar question,” if you will. We live on a world with limited resources and a vast population, so coming up with ways for everyone to be truly healthy, while also not outstripping the land and sea, is incredibly important. Now, I’ll be the first to admit that it’s unlikely there’s a simple yes/no answer to this question. We have to acknowledge a few realities with regards to population: It’s unlikely we can feed every person on the planet a pound of meat per day.

Regardless of our thoughts on the population that can be supported on the available resources, there are 6.7 billion of us here and that’s not something we can change. I figured we’d start it off with a bang, so today is a very hot-button topic. Land Usage Of Various Meat Animals. Online Votes Lift Last-Ranked 'Caveman Diet' U.S. News and World Report, a weekly news magazine with a penchant for ranking things, did not think much of the Paleo or “Caveman diet.” It ranked the Paleo diet dead last. But in the two weeks since U.S. News issued its “Best Diets” report, a funny thing has happened. As of mid-day Monday, more than 3,000 people said they lost weight with the Caveman diet, versus just 74 who said they did not.

The Dash diet, which won the overall category, had only 95 people saying it worked for them, versus 457 who claimed it did not work. The rankings and the popularity of the diets, especially the spike in support for the Caveman diet, come as no surprise. Ever since those U.S. U.S. But it’s been the overall weight-loss category, where the Paleo diet was ranked last among the 20 studied, that has generated attention ever since. Seth Godin advocates using cookies to distinguish between new and returning visitors to your site: “One opportunity that’s underused is the idea of using cookies to treat returning visitors differently than newbies. It’s more work at first, but it can offer two experiences to two different sorts of people.” (Source: In the Middle, Starting) I built this WordPress plugin to implement Seth Godin’s idea. It reduces the “work at first” to almost nothing. Similar to one of my first blog posts on building a basic application for Mac OS X using xcode 3.0, I am going to explain for beginning iPhone/iPod Touch developers how to build the most basic Cocoa Touch application using Interface Builder and an application delegate in xcode 3.1.

This tutorial post is really to provide a quick how-to. I won’t go into any depth explaining why things are done the way they are done, but this should help you get up and running with your first application pretty quickly so that you too can clog the App Store with useless superfluous apps (kidding… just kidding).
