Practically Dynamo: Practical Uses for Dynamo Within Revit. Dynamo: The Secret to Working Smarter and Making Your Life Easier. When working with clients, architects are bound to change, update and reiterate projects. Revisions are deeply ingrained into the design process, and as projects become more complex and updates become more frequent, keeping the most up-to-date versions of your designs can be a challenge. As a part of Building Information Modeling (BIM), computational design is a burgeoning trend, based upon the idea that any design problem can be described as an abstract model with clear and logical guidelines, which can then be solved through computation.

This design process is especially gaining popularity among architects and engineers who want to explore a multitude of designs and iterations to quickly discover the best solutions for their needs. In the past, creating and updating responsive, dynamic models proved much more time-consuming and difficult than it should be. Luckily though, an industry-proven visual programming environment powered by Dynamo helps combat this problem.

Space Frame with Structural Framing in Dynamo The last year I’ve become more and more involved with Dynamo, the open source visual programming interface that eats, drinks and sleeps with Revit. Since Christmas I’ve arranged multiple Computational Design workshops at Dark with the goal of increasing interest in visual programming and narrowing the gap between BIM and Computational Design tools. We’ve had Nathan Miller from CASE over the Atlantic for a fantastic training session, and I’ve started speaking about Dynamo at international conferences. Twisting Elliptical Tower with Attractor Wave from Nate’s training session Why? Apart from the obvious fact that I like it, I think there are three very interesting aspects of playing around with it.

First, and most apparent perhaps, Dynamo provides an opportunity to work with complex and optimized shapes and structures in far less time than traditional tools will. Creating Project Browser Folders | Paul F. Aubin. Creating Project Browser Folders Mar 3, 2013 I had an email today from a reader asking how to create custom folders in the Revit Project Browser. You can do this by customizing the browser organization and including a custom parameter.

I thought that I would go ahead and post the steps here instead of just replying privately. The first thing you want to do is decide how you will apply this custom parameter. If you always want to use this organization in your projects, save this in your office standard project template file. On the Manage tab, add a Project Parameter Create a custom text Parameter for Sheets The parameter is now ready. Create some sheets. Input values in the new Parameter Now we will create the custom browser organization. Create a custom Browser Organization The Browser Organization can use the custom Parameter Sheets now sort based on the custom Sheet Folder Parameter That’s it.
