Elisabeth Fritzl, 42, was raped repeatedly since being lured into the dungeon built below the family home in a small Austrian town. Police said she had been "broken" by the experience. Josef Fritzl, 73, admitted to police that all the children were his. Three of them - Kerstin, 19, Stefan, 18, and Felix, five - were held captive with their mother in a series of windowless rooms and never saw the sunlight until they were freed on Saturday. Incredibly, three others, Alexander, 12, Monika, 14, and Lisa, 16, were raised in the home by Fritzl and his wife. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-562377/Pictured-Inside-cellar-father-locked-daughter-24-years-repeatedly-raped-her.html

Marshall Kirkpatrick » How to Build an RSS and Blog News Site fo

I’m excited to unveil my latest consulting project, a fairly extensive RSS-based microsite put together with Sun Microsystems for next week’s JavaOne conference. It’s called BlogCentral . Turns out today is international RSS Awareness Day ! This might have been a better fit for Enterprise RSS Awareness Day last week, but that’s ok. I don’t often blog about particular consulting projects because most of the work I do is with pre-launch companies or for internal use only, but consulting is what I spend one to two thirds of my day doing after I finish blogging at ReadWriteWeb .

In March, Wichita Rutherford, 42, of Nashville was a pool cleaner with a passion for bluegrass. Then the amateur musician learned about podcasting—a new way to host and distribute your own audio shows online—and his life changed. He bought two microphones for $14 each, plugged them into a Mac and bought some space on the Web (at www.libsyn.com) for $5 a month. Within a week, he was conducting, recording and posting interviews with Nashville performers. The resulting sensation—as more than 200,000 regular listeners can attest—is his show “Five Minutes With Wichita” (www.5minuteswithwichita.com), the Internet’s hottest bluegrass podcast. A podcast is an audio file posted to an online journal (blog) or Web site and linked by a line of code called an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed. http://www.parade.com/articles/editions/2005/edition_11-20-2005/featured_3

Truthdig: Drilling Beneath the Headlines

A 0.2 percent dip in GDP at the end of 2011, which followed a drastic decline in the third quarter, has thrown Ireland back into recession, alongside Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal and Greece, and begs the question of whether austerity is the answer to Europe’s economic woes.
Oh, Jason Mogus, thank you! This needed to be said! Although the point of his recent article on Why your non-profit won't make a KONY 2012 has likely been obscured by other (weirder or more troublesome) stories about the most successful viral video of all time, that doesn't make his points any less valid. Striking at the heart of the faddishness that drives much of what nonprofits take for innovation, here are his six points about why most organizations will never succeed in this way: (1) You've never met your supporters. (2) You don't really have a twitter army. (3) You speak to too many audiences. (4) Your policy people would never let this get through. (5) You run 18 campaigns and your site has 35 calls to action. (6) Your organization isn't aligned towards the social web.
