Spf. YDK. Salesforce 101: Fun with Campaigns and Workflows | A View from J. This is what I love about Salesforce CRM. No matter how much I think I know, I always have “lightbulb” moments where I learn something new about the platform that opens up wide new doors in how we use the tool at C3. Over the past few weeks, I’ve had such moments around Campaigns and Workflow Rules. We’ve been using both Campaigns and Workflow Rules to some extent since we started with Salesforce in 2006.

Now I’m just beginning to see how powerful the two can be, and how little technical knowledge I need. Remember, I’m not a programmer or developer. I can follow a recipe, but I can’t write a line of javascript or Apex to save my life. As a nonprofit, the key to making the most out of Salesforce (IMO) is to think beyond the textbook definition of a standard object. I also think you need to try and do as much as you can with the standard objects before moving to 3rd party tools, add-ins and programming.

If you’re not into Salesforce geekery, best to stop reading now… Enter Campaigns. Food to Work Program - Convio. Better World Campaign. How Non-Profits Can Use Facebook. Behind Convio’s decision to kill its IPO - Big Tech. It should have been an ideal time for Convio to go public: The startup, whose online service helps non-profits raise cash and communicate with donors, is not only part of the buzzy "software-as-a-service" movement, but it's also getting a piece of the action in one of the most money-flush political years on record.

But the Texas company yanked its IPO a few days ago, saying a weak economy and skittish stock market have made a successful public offering impossible. (Fellow startups GT Solar (SOLR) and Rackspace (RAX) recently took the plunge, though some will argue that they shouldn't have.) And to hear CEO Gene Austin talk about it, it could be a while before the company moves to go public again – which makes Convio's story a cautionary tale for anyone who cares about the IPO market. It's not like Convio it trying to be the next Google (GOOG). The company has 335 employees, most of them in Austin, with satellite offices in Berkeley and Washington, D.C.
