Bildungslehre Theodor Ballauffs vs Reduzierung Des Bildungsbegriffs_Bachelorarbeit_Kohlstedt_2015. Digital Literacy, Engagement, and Digital Identity Development. The seven elements of digital literacies model from Jisc represents a useful visual/model for those of us who teach, speak, and write about all things digital.

Digital Literacy, Engagement, and Digital Identity Development

When you think broadly about each of the 7 elements, connections can be made that resonate with student affairs work. The section on communications and collaboration is especially relevant for those of us who work to enhance student engagement and create opportunities for digital community. The career and identity management element matches up perfectly to the concept of digital identity. When students transition into higher education it is often the case that their digital identity will also be in a state of transition.

Career services and orientation programs are in the perfect spot for providing educational efforts on digital identity. Critical Thinking vs. Creative Thinking. The Common Core demands students think critically while staying connected and diving into text, yet employers desire workers who can think creatively while connecting with people as they dive into their work.

Critical Thinking vs. Creative Thinking

In college and careers students will often face the challenge of answering open-ended questions rather than text-dependent ones. Much of the text they encounter in school and work will not be “rich and worthy” of close reading. College students and employees will often be required to make decisions and determine a course of action using vague, conflicting, or even incomplete data that is derived from a variety of sources. Education programs should cultivate independent thinkers who can formulate creative solutions to novel problems rather than training text-dependent thinkers who can answer standardized text-based questions. There is a significant difference between thinking critically while close reading complex text and thinking creatively while solving a complicated task…

It’s Here! The NMC Horizon Report > 2015 HiEd Edition

The 12th edition describes annual findings from the NMC Horizon Project, an ongoing research project designed to identify and describe emerging technologies likely to have an impact on learning, teaching, and creative inquiry in education. This report is also the first NMC publication made possible in part through crowdfunding efforts. Six key trends, six significant challenges, and six important developments in educational technology are identified across three adoption horizons over the next one to five years, giving campus leaders and practitioners a valuable guide for strategic technology planning.

The format of the report provides in-depth insight into how trends and challenges are accelerating and impeding the adoption of educational technology, along with their implications for policy, leadership, and practice. 53rd Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD53) The 53rd Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD53) will take place from 4-13 February 2015 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Education. By Christina Pazzanese, Harvard Staff Writer After centuries of relative torpor, technology breakthroughs have begun to reshape teaching and learning in ways that have prompted paradigm shifts around pedagogy, assessment, and scholarly research, and have upended assumptions of how and where learning takes place, the student-teacher dynamic, the functions of libraries and museums, and the changing role of scholars as creators and curators of knowledge. Michael Sandel, Anne T. and Robert M. 10 Scientific Studies That Prove Consciousness Can Alter Our Physical Material World.

Nikola Tesla said it best, “the day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence. To understand the true nature of the universe, one must think it terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” Swami Vivekananda influenced Tesla’s work, an Indian Hindu monk and chief disciple of the 19th century saint Ramakrishna. Tesla was also influenced by other Vedic philosophies. Science works best when in harmony with nature.
