Overview Game Blocks is a free, open source library for making games. A purely visual programming toolkit, it was built with BYOB (Build Your Own Blocks) from UC Berkeley, which is built on top of Scratch. Scratch is developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab. See http://scratch.mit.edu Game Blocks was developed as a teaching aid by game developer Sheldon Pacotti for a course at the University of Texas entitled "RTF 344M: Writing and Narrative Design for Video Games."
Hot on the heels of our previous GUI article, iPhone and iPad Development GUI Kits , today we focus on Android development. The idea is the same: To help streamline your app design and development, with a fairly comprehensive collection of Android GUI kits, icons, fonts, .psds and tools, that will allow you to focus on developing rather than having to design everything from scratch. In comparison to Apples iPhone, the Android interaction design guidelines are far from being extensive nor are they as regimental. Androids guidelines are comprehensive and clear enough, yet they do allow a little room for some original design creativity – which is good.
I am very happy to announce the release of CocosBuilder 2.0 beta0. This is a huge milestone and there are many new exciting features. The plan is to release a sharp version at the same time as, or slightly after, the release of cocos2d 2.0. Note that this version of CocosBuilder will probably only work with the latest version of cocos2d 2.0 (gles branch) from GitHub. Some of the new functions: Lion compatibility fixes and plenty of bug fixes Support for multiple resource directories and sub-directories A single ccb-file can handle multiple resolutions (e.g. iPhone and iPad) Resources are automatically updated when changed outside of CocosBuilder New plug-in system for custom nodes, default plug-ins for common cocos2d nodes, CCScrollView, CCSlice9Sprite and CCControlButton New compact file format for exports (ccbi) Project based work environment, export all your resources and ccb-files in one go.
