Talking galleries barcelona 23 oct.key.

Online • Artists at Work: Anne Tallentire. Anne Tallentire's practice engages a range of media and forms including installation, performance and moving image. Tallentire was born and raised in Co. Armagh in the north of Ireland, and has lived and worked in London since 1984. Tallentire is now a professor and tutor at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, as well as a convenor of the research project Double agents, which seeks to incite performative dialogues between interdisciplinary and international artists. Central to Tallentire’s investigation is how institutional, political and social systems might produce a peripatetic practice.

Her practice often forms itself on the street, from filming workers in the city of London to locating materials that are used in installations. The ensuing investigations are made both individually and in collaboration with others in the gallery space, notably with John Seth, under the banner of long term collaborative practice work-seth/tallentire. Studio Berlin – Study on contemporary art in Berlin Whoever watches the present depends on a diversity of perspectives. The most interesting developments cannot be categorized usually.

To cover the field of contemporary art in a study is a very special challenge since it changes while being described. It is part of the character of art, that a description of contemporary art cannot have an universally valid conclusion. We regard art as communication and start with art being a system of communication of modern society. Art developes itself freely and choses the criteria by which it defines itself. We have examined this playing ground since the beginning of last year and have evaluated copious amounts of information. We checked already known data about contemporary art in Berlin by strict criteria. The terms of the city for contemporary art in Berlin and some aspects of the historic development will be presented in the following paragraph. Metropolis Berlin A Place for Artists (of Life) The duo behind the Moving Museum. 'Ville Urbaine' (2010) by Shezad Dawood As a backdrop for an exhibition of contemporary art, 180 The Strand, in central London, takes some beating.

This bleakly beautiful 1970s building, with fine views across the Thames, is the venue for the Moving Museum, a travelling project that presents pre-eminent works in cities worldwide. The exhibition, Open Heart Surgery, which opens during Frieze Week (and closes on December 13), includes more than 200 pieces by 31 artists, spread across 35,000 sq ft of the sprawling modernist monument. The show is a significant addition to the giddy art merry-go-round spinning across the capital this week.

The works are for sale and wealthy individuals frequenting Frieze London will no doubt make the show part of their circuit. But this non-profit venture promises something rather more radical. The pair could be poster children for today’s global contemporary art world. 'Occupy the Cloud II' (2013) by James Bridle ©Christian Sinibaldi. Edward_ Winkleman. As we walked from the gallery last night, Murat pointed out a thread connecting a series of conversations we've had with collectors, critics, dealers, and artists over the past few months. There's been plenty of chatter about the squeeze on the middle tier of the art market / art world lately, but he said, and it struck me the way only something undeniable and right before your nose the whole time can, that up and down the entire system, current trends are profoundly discouraging that class of people we consider to be in the art world "for the right reasons": the true believers. And thinking about what the art world might look like without those people, should they become so disillusioned they leave it altogether, made me shudder.

Of course, there has been a wide-range of very high-profile and public defections / distancings from the art world lately. Collectors, journalists/thinkers, critics, etc., have all announced how "vulgar" or "nasty" or "filthy" it's all become. 1. Dear Alain, Gallery - Contact Us. China flexes its muscles in the contemporary art market. 8 June 2011Last updated at 17:27 By Katie Hunt Business reporter, BBC News, Hong Kong This picture by Fang Lijun went for three times its original estimate Standing at the back of the packed sale room, the Chinese man, casually dressed in a green shirt, was barely visible to the auctioneer.

Undeterred, and helped by gesturing bystanders, his paddle finally caught the auctioneer's gaze and, after some fierce bidding, he paid 21.9 million Hong Kong dollars ($2.8m; £1.7m) for the monochrome oil canvas of two bald, quizzical men, by Fang Lijun - three times more than the pre-sale estimate. Other bidders at the sale of Chinese and Asian contemporary art, in Hong Kong last week, complained security guards had refused them entry into the main sale room, saying it had been dangerously overcrowded. They, like collectors and investors elsewhere, are clamouring for a slice of the white-hot market for Chinese contemporary art. Collecting the 21st Century Way: DSL & their Online Chinese Contemporary Collection | ArtLife Magazine. “I believe, what is important, is to give visibility to art and the artists, in particular those who are not necessarily the darlings of the auction market.” -Sylvain Levy In this digital age, the art world is not unfamiliar with innovative progressive technologies- be it an app, online art fair or in the case of Dominique and Sylvain Levy, a virtual collection of artwork online. Collectors Dominique and Sylvain Levy, known in short as DSL, have newly launched their online component for their 120-piece collection of contemporary Chinese art. This virtual museum component, which comprises temporary and permanent exhibitions of the collection curated by guest curators, is extremely unique for collecting.

The viewer can view the artwork in the collection, and also read articles written by the artists and curators. In the upcoming year, DSL plans to launch a 3-D platform, which will give online visitors the chance to virtually visit temporary exhibitions. María de Corral - ExpoActual.
