To me, burgers say spring is here, and summer is around the corner. They make such an easy weeknight meal because all you have to do is pair them up with a side salad or vegetable, and voila, dinner is served. We love all types of burgers from turkey, chicken, to buffalo and veggie. I’m always on the hunt for a new burger recipe to add to our recipe box. Braised Honey Mustard Rabbit Or Lapin au miel et à la moutard (With Chicken Option) Long before the existence of this blog, and before taking a series interest in cooking, one of the first dishes I prepared for my husband was rabbit.

Braised Honey Mustard Rabbit Or Lapin au miel et à la moutard (With Chicken Option)

I know it seems like a serious dish for someone who could, at that time, barely boil water. But I swear I really did cook it and managed to impress my husband with the delicious results. I certainly didn’t grow up eating rabbit at home. The Devil's Food Advocate: Braised Chicken with Figs. I cook a lot of chicken and my favorite is braised chicken legs.

The Devil's Food Advocate: Braised Chicken with Figs

I use all sorts of combinations of ingredients for the aromatics and the braising liquids. A particularly popular meal at our house is this chicken braise cooked with white wine, onions, and figs. The method is a little different from the usual braise; there is less liquid, the pan is left uncovered, and the skin turns out browned and crispy rather than soft and flabby (as some chicken braises tend to be). Pintade au chou : Recette de Pintade au chou. Cassoulet de Lapin aux Feves. I came back from my shopping trip all “Frenchified”, ready to make something simple, fresh and delicious.

Cassoulet de Lapin aux Feves

Rabbit sounded good to me and I also had fava beans. Fava bean preparation is a little more fiddly or labor intensive than I like, but it always seems worth it. I really am craving fresh bean/pea anything and favas are packed with flavor! Rable of rabbit is the saddle portion and is usually sold with the kidneys attached so as not to disappoint the offal eating French public. Butter-Basted Pan-Seared Thick-Cut Steaks. Italian Red Wine Pork Roast. ChickenThighs with Maple-Cranberry Sauce. I know this dish looks like it was designed for a holiday table with it's abundance of red and green on the plate, and while it would certainly be a welcome meal during the holiday season, we're eating it now to celebrate another season.....cranberry season!

ChickenThighs with Maple-Cranberry Sauce

You see, we live in the heart of cranberry country and right now the annual berry harvest is in full swing. Between now and Thanksgiving we'll have ready access to great, fresh local berries and as cranberries are a favorite of mine, I just couldn't wait to get them back on our plates. If you happen to live somewhere other than Massachusetts or Wisconsin (where most of our berries are grown) and have a hard time finding fresh ones, no worries, you can make the sauce with thawed frozen berries, no-harm, no-foul. Baked Empanadas. Today’s recipe is not Italian as you may have guessed.

Baked Empanadas

Empanadas are a South American delicacy and are very popular in many countries. Quail and Grapes - Recipes. Asian Style Roasted Quail. BAKED SPICY PRAWNS. I just love prawns because, aside from it being full of flavour by itself, it just goes well with anything that you add to it.

BAKED SPICY PRAWNS

This dish was inspired by a steamed prawn dish that my mother-in-law always cooks. Spring onions, chillies and garlic are the aromatics that work so well together and this time, I thought of giving it a Mediterranean twist by adding sherry and sun dried tomatoes. I baked the dish to enhance and concentrate the flavours even further. The eggs enrich the dish and the juices of the prawns forms a sauce which is so nice for dipping bread in or eating with rice or potatoes. Pistachio crusted rack of lamb. I had a single old rack of lamb (only 8 skinny ribs in total) laying in my freezer for over a year.

Pistachio crusted rack of lamb

Each time I wanted to cook it, my husband would object: “let’s save it for the special occasion, when we have guests”. Whenever we had guests, I would look at that lonely rack of lamb in the freezer and would think, hmm, that doesn’t look like enough food for 6 people, unless we want to serve an average of one rib per person, which would make us look like one of those fine dining restaurants that serve a tiny portion of meat on a huge plate. So, I would close the freezer and skip the lamb. For some reason, this type of reasoning has continued for about a year.

For Begun bhaja, slices of eggplant are marinated in spices of choice, usually turmeric and chili powder, with variations like garam masala, dried mango powder and more. The marinated eggplant slices can be directly deep/shallow fried, or coated in flour(semolina or rice) for a crunch, and then fried. Yumm, because the eggplants pick up a lot of oil :) These chili stacks are eggplant slices, brushed lightly with oil and roasted on stove top. Once cooked to preference, I sprinkle salt, fresh red chili powder and black salt/kala namak. Crab Cakes on Salad Greens with Creamy Garlic Dressing - The Cooking Bride. Throwback Thursday At the end of last year, while I was getting ready to transfer my WordPress-hosted blog over to a self-hosted site, I was forced to come face-to-face with the painful inadequacy of the food photography from my rookie days.

It was like moving into a fabulous new house with all the thrift-store and hand-me-down furniture from your college days. I’m not claiming that I know everything there is to know about food photography, but if you peruse some of the posts from 2009, you have to admit I have come a long way. I decided it was time to revisit some of those recipes and try to capture photos that will actually do them justice. Like this one. Braised rabbit in white wine sauce. Some weeks ago I wrote about our trip to Constanza a few weeks back, and some time before that I wrote of my memories of that beautiful region of the country.

There was so much to see, so much to do in the three days that we were there, that I can’t help but try and convince you to go see for yourself. One of the things that I learned from this trip is that I should trust my husband’s eyesight better than mine. But not his sense of taste. One of the sites everybody recommended was the Aguas Blancas waterfall. Chilli and Beer Barbecue Pork Ribs Plus 4 Other Rib Marinades. These spicy Chilli and Beer Barbecue Pork Ribs are meltingly tender on the inside and crisp on the out. Easy to make and one of my favourite Summer finger foods. Streetfood for Monthly Mingle; springrolls (again...) Braised Lamb Shank Osso Bucco. Ingredients: Master Cleanse Chicken Recipes from The Kitchn.

Once upon a time long ago, a friend of mine told me she was doing a crazy thing called the Master Cleanse; for something like thirty days she consumed only a tonic made from water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. This, of course, went down in California. Since then I've tried the Master Cleanse once, for three miserable days, and bombed.

Fast forward to today: years have passed and I find myself in Northern California on a two-week trip, having all kinds of wonderfully familiar cliché Californian experiences likw leaving the house unlocked, being greeted by neighbors with "dear gentle people," meeting a local couple who founded a nudist peace movement, walking through clouds of patchouli at the hardware store, and always being given the option for soy, rice or almond milk in my coffee.
