25 Awesome Nail Trends to Try. By Jaime Morrison Curtis | I’ve never been one for fancy manicures, but after a recent trip to London I think I may change my mind. It seems that across the pond it’s become a bit of a craze to turn the tips of your fingers into ten tiny artworks. We are not talking the bedazzled acrylic talons of yesteryear — the new look in nail art is short, sweet, and just plain fun. Maybe a detailed rainbow on each finger is a little over the top for you, but would you try doing just one nail in a different color like the manicure pictured above? I’ve rounded up 25 fun & flirty nail art looks, from over the top patterns to subtle chic styles. Many even have links to tutorials teaching you how to recreate the look yourself using things as unexpected as patterned paper, stamps, and tape. Here's the tutorial for the hodge splodge nail art I posted earlier in the week. It had a great response and 5 of you guessed my tool correctly - it was a toothbrush! Angie D, TheNailNut, Caitlin, TheBeauBow and Lisa all got it right... give yourselves a high five from me!

This is my entry to Money Supermarket's Money Smart Nail Art competition. I don't make any secret of the fact that I am a stingy SOB and I like to think myself a thrifty, bargain sniffing miss. For this criteria, I really wanted to create a tutorial for a nail art look that only used nail polish and tools that you would already have around the house, or that cost literally pennies to buy. It really doesn't get much more money smart than an 18p pack of toothbrushes. That's a quarter to my American friends. To create this nail art, you'll need to pick a polish for your base colour, a few others that you want to use for the splodges, a toothbrush and a top coat.

I got these toothbrushes from Tesco and for 18p! Step 3. Nail Polish: Sassy Nails and An Awesome Haul~ I'm pretty sure this is a kind of common design but I wanted to recreate it with these awesome colors. Want these sassy, chic nails? Then read on for the super easy tutorial. :) So easy, it doesn't even need instructions. But for those of you who do not know how, I took photos, see: The lack of light on certain times of the day is killing me. Pretty chic right? Anyways, apart from that I wanna share with you my haul last week. I was going to buy more but I restrained myself - I have too many bottles of polish (at least for my mother anyway).

Hi everyone! Today I have another video tutorial for you (remember my makeup brush cleanser video?) , a sugar spun nail art video! This technique is rather simple so a video showing the process isn't absolutely necessary but it does help just to give you a visual of what should be happening. Sorry for my sleepy voice it was 2 am which seems like the only time I can actually get anything done with my blog lately. Also I said um a lot. Here's the video link if the movie doesn't play on this page ;) Colors Used: (base color) Franken 3 coats, Revlon - Royal. Have a wonderful Tuesday! - xoxo Alexis Leigh Nail Polish: Fancy Schmancy Nails. I love fancy nails on occasion (read: almost every weekend). Sometimes I find really pretty designs - most of them using nail stamps. I use nail stamps, but not very often because I'm usually too lazy to use them (although I really love them) and because I suck at stamping - yes it's the perfectionist in me.

I recently got a really good gold polish, and while I was toying around with that, stamps and tape, I came up with this. I think it's a good way to not have to buy new stamps and to re-use things that are around the house (uh-huh, my truckload of craft stuff). First, paint your tape and then get some decorative edge scissors. Paint your nails while you wait for your tape to dry. When your tape and your nails are both dry, take your scissors and snip the edge of the tape - and then move your scissors a bit until it makes the design that you want, and again, cut it. I used Sinful Colors' Leap Flog and China Glaze's Passion. Nail. Nail Polish: Gilded Nails. This post has been long overdue - I was planning to post this before Easter, but I had so many things to do I wasn't able to find time to do nail art.

But hey, gilded nails isn't just for Easter, right? So read on to find out how I achieved this effect, it's super easy I swear! The secret, natural loofahs of course - the ones that are coarse and shriveled up at first but when you drench it in water it'll expand. I think they're called facial sponges. Still don't know what I'm talking about? Check this out here. Here's how I did it: Wet your sponge. Sponge until you've achieved your desired effect. Now take your base nail color and put some on the sponge to sponge randomly and lightly on the nail, lessening the gilded effect but making it look better and chunkier (in my opinion). Apply top coat and clean the skin surrounding the nail and you're done! Now, some tips: 1. 2. 3. ...love Maegan: Halloween Manicure : Black, Copper, & Silver Metallic Seismograph Nails... | A Lifestyle Blog + Fashion + Beauty + DIY. Halloween or not, this may be one of my new favorite manicures ever. Done with metallics, shimmers, and fine glitters, any three colors would look fantastic really.

After compiling my Halloween manicure ideas from around the web, I was determined to create something different. And while this isn’t spooky, I think it’s a chic way to do a Halloween mani using the copper rather than a bright orange…. and in the end actually looked like a Seismograph. I just love it. Here’s how I did it… I used only Sonia Kashuk nail polishes: * Starry Night {black shimmer} | Smoke & Mirrors {silver} | Two Cent {copper} * Seche Vite fast drying top coat {a favorite} * Paint two coats of black to half of your nail, closest to the nail bed. . * Paint two coats of copper to the top half of your nail… and let dry. >NOTE: this particular metallic silver is thick enough to go on and cover in one coat… I love it! Voila! Have Fun! Find all of my Nail Art Tutorials Here. Feather Manicure. I bought these feathers a few weeks ago and I knew they'd make a gorgeous mani. Here's how to recreate the look.

It'll cost you waaaay less than what you'd pay in the salon! You will need: A base color. I chose Essie's Glamour Purse. Before you start, prepare all of the feathers you plan to use by cutting off the ends. Paint on your base color, let it dry, then add a coat of your thick clear top coat. While the clear coat is still tacky, carefully place the feather on to your nail. When that's completely dry, apply a few coats of your fast drying top coat. Once that's dry, use scissors or cuticle clippers to trim off most of the excess feather hanging off the end of your nail.

You can remove what's left with a nail file which also leaves you with a nice smooth edge. I like to clean up around my cuticles with pure acetone and a small paintbrush, especially after piling on all that top coat! And here's the result... What do you think of this manicure idea? NAILED IT! Photos + post by Kristin Ess If you’re a fan of pretty shiny things, you’re going to love our first spring mani of the season. We all know everything looks better dipped in gold, so we thought this should do the trick. I decided to use gold leafing sheets to accent the corners of these turquoise nails.

Here’s how you do it: TOOLS: Turquoise nail polish, gold leafing sheets (available at your local art supply stores or see link below), clear top coat, nail file, q-tip (regular or pointed). Select a good turquoise polish. Related posts: NAILED IT! Photos/post/design: Kristin Ess (wood floor insert photo from remodelista.com) You gotta love those magical moments when you’re just minding your own bizz and inspiration jumps out and smacks you right between the eyes. Not long ago I was looking through floor patterns for a home project. My favorite pattern in the world is called the “herringbone pattern”. While I’m speaking to this flooring guy, all I could think about is making this pattern into a manicure.

As he started demonstrating the way it gets laid down, I only saw colorfully painted nail strips. Sorry dude. Eventually I snapped back into floor mode, but it makes me remember that inspiration can come from anywhere at any time and you have to be open-minded to it! NOTE: Before you start, use one of your polish colors as a base for your nails about an hour before (or the night before) so they have plenty of time to dry before you apply the nail strips! MANI MONDAY: DIY GLITTER POLISH. Photos/post/graphic design by Kristin Ess A lot of you have mentioned that some of the polishes that we’ve posted in the past are too expensive when you’re living on a budget. Well, this sparkly DIY glitter polish tutorial should help you out. Here we go: Roll a post it into a cone shape and tape the side to create your funnel. You’ll need 3 kinds of sparkle. I used thick chunky craft glitter from the craft store, a fine craft glitter by Martha Stewart, and a gold pigment powder.

This makes a great gift when you’re a little tight on money– just personalize it by re-labeling the bottle with love. Photos + post by Kristin Ess First of all, sorry for the lack of posts this week. By now you know that Lady Conrad has a brand new book called THE FAME GAME. We joined her on her book tour and that busy schedule left little time for much else. But we’re back and bringing you the ombre stain mani! We’ve seen lots of ombre techniques in the past, but this one is pretty cool because it’s done on your bare nails and has more of a stain effect than looking like actual nail polish.

You will need: 3-4 gradient nail polish colors (dark to light and all in the tonal family), a clear top coat, a triangle makeup sponge, a cup of water, a piece of paper for blotting the polish, a paint brush + nail polish remover for clean up. Unscrew the lids of your 3 or 4 gradient colors so they’re ready to go. Try it in other colors.
