The brooding melodic rockers are led by singer-songwriter Justin Furstenfeld, a frontman known for pouring the most uncomfortable moments of his private life into his lyrics. In the first installment of our exclusive interview with the vocalist, Furstenfeld spoke candidly about his mental breakdown and bi-polar diagnosis during the promotional tour for their 2009 ‘Approaching Normal’ album.

For the second part of our conversation, Noisecreep asked the Blue October star if he’s worried that being bi-polar will be something that will haunt him for the rest of his life. “Yeah, that’s something that I definitely worry about,” the singer admits. “I didn’t even know I was bi-polar until my incident on the airplane. “But when I found out my ex was cheating on me with some guy and that my daughter was calling him ‘Daddy,’ I lost my mind.

Not literally, but anyone who's listened to the singer-songwriter's lyrics, be it mega-hit "Hate Me" or past, poignant tracks like "Jump Rope," knows that anything he's feeling is expressed in his songs. When he was sitting down to write the band's sixth album, "Any Man in America" (out Aug. 16), Furstenfeld was going through arguably the worst period of his life: divorce and a custody battle. The songwriting process, as it's always been for the lead singer, was therapeutic, but his personal battles continue.

I spoke with Furstenfeld about what he's been going through lately, the album (the first single, "The Chills," is about feeling so helpless in a situation that you want to explode) and the band, which will tour this fall. Personal life[edit] When not touring with his band, Furstenfeld resides in San Marcos, Texas. He is the brother of Blue October drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld. Justin Furstenfeld has battled with bipolar disorder with psychotic tendencies [1] through most of his life and anxiety issues as well.[2][3] He admits to a past of self-harm in his teen years, and suicidal thoughts throughout his life. He has a daughter, named Blue, to whom he dedicated the album Any Man in America. On June 13, 2012, Justin proposed to his pregnant girlfriend Sarah. Music career[edit] On October 22, 2009, the Pick Up The Phone Tour was cancelled after Justin was admitted to a hospital for an extreme anxiety attack, though the band still played two November dates in Austin.
