What is a MOOC? | #DigiFoot miniMOOC. A MOOC is a Massive Open Online Course. #DigiFoot12 is not an official MOOC. We are using free open online resources, and connectivist pedegogy to try and create a k-12 online course “option”. That means you are going to get out this course…what you put into it. Your learning will be dependent upon the spontaneous connections created by you as participants. How will that work? Through the creation of Personal Learning Networks (PLN’s) that we connect together for the course through RSS and twitter feeds – and anything else that is suggested. For this course, all participants under 18 years of age are asked to create a “username” for the duration of the course – like, “Funny Elf”. More information on MOOCs….. #Digi foot12 week 1 final v ersion. My PLN. Edtechpost - PLE Diagrams. Sketchy Explanation: Starting a PLN. Edtech VISION - edtech VISION. Martha Thornburgh and I are presenting “What is a PLN and why do I need one” at the upcoming NCCE 2010 conference in Seattle. We are fleshing out some of our ideas for our session so I thought I would blog some of our ideas. A PLN is a Personal Learning Network. A PLN is a reciprocal network that you create to learn from, connect with, gather information or resources, create with and finally share what you have learned. A PLN can occur in your school, face-to-face, online, at conferences or through reading, reflecting and sharing. The benefits of having a PLN? Teaching can be a very isolating profession. Having a PLN allows you to connect and share with other educators in your subject area.

It can take time to build up an active PLN – so don’t get discouraged. Our session plan is explain how to develop a PLN and then share various tools that can make that happen. “Twitter is the water cooler of the Internet” ~Neil Chambers.
