Liquid Wood: 100% Organic Replacement For Everything Plastic - Green Diary. German inventors have developed a new material which holds the promise of replacing everything plastic with something as natural as wood.

Liquid Wood: 100% Organic Replacement For Everything Plastic - Green Diary

The material in question is called the Arboform. It is produced after combining lignin, a discarded element of regular wood with natural resins, flax and fiber. Arboform can be molded into any object form which is normally made using non-biodegradable petroleum products. What shoots up the eco-factor of such products is the fact that once out of use the Arboform products break down quickly organically into eco-safe by-products like water and carbon dioxide. Now almost anything that you can imagine under the sun can be produced using Arboform from simple toys to complex gadgets. Via: Dornob. Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have turned to Mother Nature for inspiration, inventing a device that mimics photosynthesis, the process plants use to convert sunlight and water into usable energy.

Artificial Leaf Turns Sunlight into Electric Power

The MIT researchers announced their invention at the American Chemical Society meeting in California. MIT chemistry professor Daniel Nocera says he and his colleagues took their cues from plants, which are literally buzzing with electricity. "What happens is that sunlight comes in and hits the leaf and then the leaf immediately takes that sunlight and makes a wireless current," says Nocera. During photosynthesis, the energy in sunlight splits water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen joins with carbon dioxide to make sugar, an essential fuel for plant growth. The hydrogen is then recombined with the oxygen in a fuel cell to produce electricity.
