Jimi Hendrix. STILL/INSTALLED. Summer Into Dust was a one-off, kaleidoscopic, crowd-fueled installation at the 2011 Coachella Music and Art Festival.
The piece manifested the emotional connection between the audience and the musicians as a visual spectacle of physical interactivity. During Arcade Fire’s last song “Wake Up,” a cascade of balls waterfalled over the top of the stage and into the crowd. These sound sources are produced by placing a virtual point source at a seemingly "infinite" distance behind the loudspeakers (i.e. at a very large distance in comparison to the size of the listening room). Such sources have no acoustical equivalent in the "real world". 3D audio.
