Then the inevitable happened…they wanted to pull them all out and watch the water filter out through all the holes! Louise x If you liked this activity, then you may also like our: Walking water. Another terrific and very simple science experience our children find interesting is what we call ‘walking water’. For this experiment all you need is paper towel, a couple of glasses and some water . We prefer to colour the water to make it easier for the children to see what is happening. Fill one of the glasses with the water and raise it up higher than the other glass. Place a strip of paper towel from the top glass, ensuring it touches the bottom, down to the lower glass. Now watch what happens as the paper towel absorbs and syphons the water through the paper into the lower glass. It will take a little while … but eventually the entire glass of water will empty into the bottom glass.

Here's the question of the day… Why do Mentos mixed with soda produce this incredible eruption? As you probably know, soda is basically sugar (or diet sweetener), flavoring, water and preservatives. When you drop the Mentos into the soda, the gelatin and gum arabic from the dissolving candy break the surface tension. How to make a Naked Egg. Now the hard part – you will have to wait as the acetic acid in the vinegar begins to react with the calcium in the egg shell. In just a short while, you should see some bubbles appearing on the outside of the egg.
These are bubbles of carbon dioxide gas from the reaction. It can take 12-24 hours before a good portion of the shell is removed. A good sign of progress is a white frothy scummy layer on the top of the surface of the vinegar. After a day of soaking you can carefully remove the egg from the vinegar. At this point you may be able to literally rub the shell off the egg with your fingers. After two days of soaking you should have a pretty cool Naked Egg. Fun things to do with your naked eggs Naked eggs are cool, but experimenting with them is even cooler.
