Juicy Bits: 195: trick or treat

You'll understand since we didn't have power yesterday. It's crazy weather here in NJ. Snow before Halloween?!?!? And the trees still had leaves so they down all over the yard because they couldn't handle the weight. I missed some of the action because I was away at Quilt Market this weekend. In the mean time, I made these pillows for a friend of mine to use as decoration at her family Halloween party. I used the font Lobster 1.3. I used fusible web for the letters instead of making stencils. I traced the letters onto the paper of the web. They're still not washable, but I figured they'll only be used once a year so it's not a big deal. Skeleton Hand Trick or Treat Bowl. The doorbell rings.

Skeleton Hand Trick or Treat Bowl

There’s an adorable princess and her little brother dressed as a cowboy on your steps. You smile widely, then offer them some Halloween candy. They lean in to help themselves to the candy bowl, and unleash screams of giggles when a skeleton hand suddenly bursts up! Natural Noshing. October 31, 2011 at 1:15 pm Happy Halloween!

Has anyone else gone overboard with Halloween candy this year? In case you and your family are on sugar overload like me from chocolate and candy, here are three healthy but festive snack ideas that are both fun and easy to throw together- no added sugars, just fruit with a bit of protein from the nut butter and string cheese: Apricot Fruit Bugs, Apple Bites and Ghost Cheese :)

Vintage Clip Art - Pumpkin on a Pedestal. Peonies and Poppyseeds. Halloween Burlap Banner. I have been admiring the burlap banners that I have been seeing around - and I thought I would make a couple of small banners.

Halloween Burlap Banner

I recently tried printing on burlap with the Thanksgiving Block project - and it was so much fun - I wanted to run burlap through my printer again but this time using a bit of color. I made an "eek" banner and a "boo" banner. This is how I did it.... 1. I made the graphics on my computer (I have the images below so you can use these for personal use). 2. 3. 4. A spooky mantel.

These 3 boys love spooky and scary and spiders, so we decided to make the downstairs mantel just for them, on a budget of course.

Downstairs is obviously where the fun is… The pumpkin topiaries are just some old flower urns I spray painted black and stacked some $1.29 pie pumkins from the grocery store. The silhouette spiders are Martha Stewart from Michaels big Halloween clearance last year: a dad, a mom, and 5 little ones, just like our family The ghosts were super fun to make: Get some liquid starch (in the laundry aisle) and pour it into a bucket, drench some cheesecloth in the starch, and then put it over your ghost form. Just let them dry and then use black paper or felt for eyes. The branches are courtesy of some backyard bushes:free! The boys made the faces on the pumpkins and they are ready to be carved. DIY Mod Podged Halloween blocks. - Mod Podge Rocks!

It’s time for Halloween – and in a big way. I’m ashamed that it’s almost the end of September and I have barely started Halloween crafting. I gotta get on the stick this weekend. Black glitter isn’t going to sprinkle itself! Luckily Man Podger David has begun Halloween crafting, so he is totally saving my butt this week. —————- It’s 98 degrees here in Los Angeles but my mind is on fall.

You will need: Cut your 4×4 post down in to 3 ½ inch blocks – they can do this for you at most hardware stores or you can do it by hand. After the paint dried I simply rubbed the blocks with my candle hitting spots on the sides, edges and top wherever I wanted my base coat color to show through. Then it was time for my contrasting color top coat.

While they were drying I gathered my paper. By now the paint had dried and it was time to sand away the wax revealing the base color underneath and all the nooks and crannys in the wood. A halloween party ... Today, i am sharing a darling children's halloween party by whitney smith!
