Design Megillah: Twig Ball. I was walking through Crate and Barrel a while ago and this driftwood ball caught my eye. (If you don't already know, I am obsessed with sphere shapes which you can read about here). I loved it and I thought it might be fun to try making one on my own. Since we don't live near the beach, and our house is surrounded by way too many trees, I decided to use what was right outside my door--branches and twigs. After I collected an armful of sticks I broke them up into about 3-inch pieces. When I would accidentally have a big blob of glue I just covered it with a smaller twig.
Here is yet another sphere to add to my collection, and I love to incorporate outdoor elements indoors--it really breathes a lot of life in to a room! As a photographer, i do love to see some objects on photos, and though they are a bit of cliche, they add some interest and they help to tell a story! And even if i don’t have any collection of props, sometimes a thing here and there is used, mainly my film cameras and chalkboards. ampersands, film cameras, fabric garlands, huge flower hair combs, picnic baskets, vintage radios & typewriters… are some of the things that i’m really fond of and would certainly buy!

My Delight with White (Ceramics) I was at Marshalls the other week and found myself yet again drawn to the aisle with the shapely white ceramics on sale. I ended up buying a pitcher, a large sculptural bowl, and vase, all for $20 (woot!) And all because I didn’t have that particular white piece in that particular shape. I have deemed my obsession with white ceramic objects a sickness and I feel no shame in the affliction. via Better Homes & Gardens They’re just so simple, so stylish, and so versatile.

P.S. My Weekend TJ Maxx Find! Paper Mache Animal Heads. Airplane Doorstop. Brigitte schuster. I love it when artists embrace the way a specific tool or medium can shape the style of their work. These beautiful calligraphy pieces were done by Brigitte Schuster, a graphic designer who specializes in typography and type design. As part of a calligraphy workshop she took with Denise Lach, Brigitte collected materials from nature to use as tools in her design process. Looking to create something imperfect, Brigitte worked with items such as a wood branch, a fir cone, seeds and even a stone to create unique letter shapes. I love how natural and organic these feel. They make me want to run to the art store and try my hand at creating my own, which is always a great sign. More images after the jump . . .
