The Government's War on Welfare Sickens Me. The attacks on the poor, working poor and disabled under the guise of "Welfare Reform" by the Tory-led Government has caused untold damage to households and families up and down the country.

The Government's War on Welfare Sickens Me

It would appear that the Government believes that welfare claimants should pay the most for the mistakes of the financial sector. Let's be clear, those who are being hardest hit by the Government's cuts to welfare are not the people who caused the economic crisis that the UK is in. The social security budget did not force reckless banking within the financial sector.

Disabled people did not cause some banks to go belly-up and unemployed people most certainly did not under-regulate the financial market. Yet it is them who face the harshest punishments for the failures of the financial sector and inept Osbornomics. They tell us that "benefit cheats" are robbing the taxpayer. Here are some stats that the Government prefers to be ignored: I am proud of the UK's welfare state.

Next steps for Enterprise Zone. Businesses from across the South West will come together on Monday to set the future direction for the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone. The event at the Passenger Shed, Bristol Temple Meads will be introduced by television presenter Kevin McCloud, and hosted by Council Leader Barbara Janke and Chair of the Local Enterprise Partnership, Colin Skellett. It is supported by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which owns a number of sites within the Enterprise Zone and will play an important role supporting the long-term delivery of the vision for the area. It will be an opportunity for architects, business people, creative industries and civic leaders to give their views on how Temple Quarter could become the location of choice for creative industries, and the infrastructure and spaces needed to achieve this.

Council leader Barbara Janke said: “Creative and digital business is already well established and thriving in Bristol. Enterprise Zone facts and background. Leader: Chancellor, it’s not working. Here is your Plan B. When George Osborne unveiled his deficit-reduction programme he did so with near-unanimous support from the political and economic establishment. The governor of the Bank of England and the heads of the IMF, the OECD and the European Commission all agreed that there was no alternative to the Chancellor's plan to impose the biggest cuts in public spending since 1945, part of a plan to eliminate the structural deficit in just one parliament.

But the consensus is turning against extreme austerity during a time of economic crisis. Mr Osborne's plan is not providing the growth and jobs that Britain needs. The latest data shows that the economy has not grown for nine months, while unemployment has risen to 2.57 million (8.1 per cent), the highest level since 1994. Worse, youth unemployment has risen to 991,000 (21.3 per cent), increasing the danger that this will be a lost generation. Be enterprising with ideas for zone. Comments (0) BUSINESS leaders from across Bristol are being urged to have a say on what should be done to revamp the area around Temple Meads station.

A special event is being held on Monday at Brunel's Old Station next to Temple Meads, hosted by television presenter Kevin McCloud. As reported in the Evening Post David Cameron came to Bristol to announce that a 173-acre enterprise zone is being created in the city earlier this year. Although there will be no direct investment, firms opting to move to Bristol will be given perks such as breaks on business rates and relaxed planning conditions. There will also be access to super-fast broadband in the new zone. The aim is to create thousands of jobs and regenerate areas such as the former Royal Mail sorting depot and the derelict site earmarked for the ill-fated arena. The event on Monday is being backed by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which owns a number of sites within the Enterprise Zone.
