m0n0wall is a project aimed at creating a complete, embedded firewall software package that, when used together with an embedded PC, provides all the important features of commercial firewall boxes (including ease of use) at a fraction of the price (free software). m0n0wall is based on a bare-bones version of FreeBSD , along with a web server, PHP and a few other utilities. The entire system configuration is stored in one single XML text file to keep things transparent. m0n0wall is probably the first UNIX system that has its boot-time configuration done with PHP , rather than the usual shell scripts, and that has the entire system configuration stored in XML format . Development on a FreeBSD 8.2 based m0n0wall version (with improved hardware/IPv6/WLAN/etc. support) is progressing well; there is now an automated snapshot building system in place that generates new images whenever a commit to the repository has taken place.

As mentioned previously , we have now moved into a monthly development cycle, in which we merge new features at the beginning of the month and then perform bug fixes through the rest of the month. This means, at the end of every month, developers, bug-reporters, and those willing to deal with potentially highly unstable builds can try a snapshot from the current development cycle, and the organization will have a more stable and predictable development cycle. For those of you who would prefer a stable version of XBMC, we will always recommend the most recent stable release (XBMC 11.0), but for the brave, you are welcome to try the end of the month build.

As a computer security venue, NSPW is unique in format and highly interactive in nature.
