DIY: Button Cardigan Chain. I really love it when a DIY involves recycling things you don't use anymore. A pair of old clip on earrings, old buttons or a chain necklace that we never wear anymore. Lets put them into good use by making this lovely cardigan chain :) You will need: - clip ons (or a pair of clip on earrings) - chain - jump rings (I used 6 smaller and 2 larger ones) - jewelry pliers and a wire cutter - glue I made a triple chain but you can use less chain pieces if you want. Begin by cutting off the loop on the back of the buttons using the wire cutters and glue the clip ons on them. Cut your chain in three pieces of different length. Link the chains by attaching the smaller jump rings to a larger one. Once the glue on the clip ons is completely open the large jump rings with the pliers and attach them to the clip ons.

Most clip ons have a little loop on their edge, if yours doesn't you can just attach the jump ring on the inner side of the clip. Done :) Hope you like it! Craft Pond » Blog Archive » DIY Turquoise Statement Necklace. BRASS BAR. I love the look of metal peeking out from under button down collars. So I went looking through etsy for supplies and found some cut brass tubing that I thought would be perfect to use to make simple bar necklaces. Then I saw the price: $6 for six short tubes?

Plus shipping? Nope, no thanks. I took a trip to my local hardware store and found some brass tubing for less than $1 a pop! I sawed the tubes to desired lengths, sanded the ends, and voila, profit :) I ran some gold wire inside a square bar, wire wrapped the end hoops and connected them to a brass chain. Super cheap and easy to construct. DIY origami-style necklace. Here's an origami jewelry experiment that's useful if you're broke, or if your eyeballs enjoy looking at folded paper.

(Speaking of crafts for the fiscally challenged, Amy Sedaris' book Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People is hilarious. But I digress.) This pleated paper necklace is made with paper, glue, and inexpensive jewelry parts. I bought this length of chain for $1 and the lobster clasp for 45 cents at a local hobby store. Jump rings were a penny each, or available in a package like this. Attach the clasp to the chain using the rings and a pliers. You could also find a necklace at a thrift store or use an old chain you already have, cutting it at the center to create two loose ends.

Cut an odd number of squares of paper, any size you like. Accordian-fold each square. Glue the fans together, alternating them right-side up and upside-down. I added a coat of clear Krylon acrylic spray as a sealer, which seemed to have no visible effect. TUTORIAL] Book Page Necklace. It's been quite the couple of weeks at Silversmith HQ with some major ups and downs, of which I will definitely be sharing more soon! But for now, a little tale about how a local market on a bitterly cold day lead to a love of piercework (sawing silver). I work in central Cambridge and can stroll past beautiful college buildings during my lunch break within seconds.

However, having grown up in the area, this all whizzes by unnoticed most days as I dash out for lunch or a last minute chore. One day when I was taking the time to enjoy my enviable environs I decided to venture into the Cambridge Art and Craft Market. The day was wintry and the stalls were few. To my delight I found this little beauty... Orange and bird themed! But, the seed had been sown and I pondered how to make my own little lovely pendant. I have a great affection for my bunny, although unlike Nigel, he didn't get named.

First you're going to take your glue and apply a little to the end. (Honestly, it would totally be better to drill a hole into the bar itself... but I have no drill and E6000 is my best friend.) Use your tweezers to place a jumpring on the glue. Leave to dry/cure. Take your chain (it has to be thin enough to thread through the jump rings) and thread it through. Almost done!
