DIY Wall Art: Dreamy Letters. Wall art featuring a special quote or song lyrics is a great DIY project. The words can be very personal like a line from your wedding song or just for fun like what I've done here. In this DIY project, I'll show you how to make these dreamy watercolor letters to spell out anything you like. Here are the supplies you'll need: large canvas board like thiswatercolor paintslarge flat watercolor paint brushwatercolor paperalphabet stencilscissorsgluewater and paper towels Think about the length of the quote when buying the canvas board and stencil. Otherwise, you might end up with not enough room on the board. First, decide on a color scheme. Add a second color starting on top of the first one to blend it in. Now just wait for it to dry and flip it over to stencil your quote. Next, cut out the letters. I think this is a great way to fill a large space for little money and when you choose the quote, it will always mean something special to you.

Making this: the ikea rast campaign hack | almost makes perfect. Mainly the reason I started this blog, I tend to look at inspirational DIYs and hacks and try to copy them, this was one of the first cases of me just knowing what I wanted to make and doing it. And people on the internet liked it as much as I did! After scouring flea markets and craigslist for campaign furniture, I gave up. It is so pretty! Am I the only person that can’t find the pieces in person? So here is the step-by-step (well, somewhat.) I picked up one of these guys for $35, not really positive of what I was going to do with it. I assembled the body of the dresser, and kept the drawer fronts on their own while I patched up the original knob holes. After patching the holes, I drilled the holes for the corner pieces and pulls. Once the drawer fronts were done, I assembled the drawers and VOILA! Hey – see my rast on Apartment Therapy and Little Green Notebook! *** AND IF YOU WANT TO SEE HOW THE HARDWARE GOES ON – i’ve done a little follow up update post here!

Mosaics- my latest exploration | Fantasy Clay. Polymer Clay Mosaic tile box and frame This weekend I was looking for some kind of inspiration. I just started playing around, looking for something easy to do and I wandered a few mosaics I saw that I liked on line and decided to try a few. The first thing I made was this copper painted box. Copper and Blue Polymer Clay Tile Mosaic I basically just outlined the shape on a piece of paper and then cut squares and rectangles of different colors of polymer clay rolled out on the thickest setting. I left the tiles on the paper to bake and then glued it on the item. Like this: Like Loading...

Sun, Surf, and Wind Chimes. I love my wind chimes. I not only have several decorating the inside and outside of our house, but my neighbor across the street has one in her front bucket window, so I blow kisses to it all the time. As much as I love seeing them and love making them, I hate taking photos of them. It is incredibly difficult to do them justice. They are very busy, so the background that I use for them must not be busy, and their triangular outline makes photo composition a challenge. So I had a brilliant idea: take them to the beach! Here are some of the results. I make my chimes from beads, beach findings collected over the course of months and pottery shards from the glazedOver studio. And here’s another photo which calls for a closer look. Do you see the brown fabric of the bag that my husband was chivalrous enough to hold for me? The Butterfly Project... A few weeks ago I shared a pic of some butterfly punch-outs I had done from a Pottery Barn catalog (it was a really colorful picture of some towels all stacked together).

I had seen a picture that Ali Edwards made of butterflies all lined up and punched from many different colors of paper (which gave me some serious inspiration in the butterfly department). I decided that I wanted to do something similar but with a different spin! I started working on this little project Saturday afternoon. I seem to have loads ideas that do not always turn out as I had envisioned them... so I figured I had better test carefully to make sure this was going to work out! In my day job I get a lot of really fine paper samples in the mail. Cougar paper had sent me sample called Ode to the Earth. I knew this was just the project for it! Picking the piece to use was the hardest part of this whole thing! You can faintly see pencil marks in 4 spots on the paper.

Here is a side view of the finished piece... P.S. How to Make a Snowstorm. November 25th, 2013 Email 355 users recommend Say goodbye to hand-cut snowflakes taped to windows. Instead, try a curtain of whimsical flakes hung on strands of dental floss. Jeff Rudell A guestroom plays host to a man-made snowstorm. Hung like beaded curtains in front of windows, these snowflakes make a subtle, modern, and whimsical addition to any seasonal room décor. Photo: Jeff Rudell A friend of mine visiting from the tropics wanted, more than anything, to see snow. So, in contrast to my chandelier post, I offer a low-skill, high-impact project sure to surprise your guests (and your family) and help put you in the spirit of the season (regardless of whether the weather is cooperating with you or not).

You might remember this little mail & display center I added to our hallway last year but I still needed some kind of tray or dish to catch those items that I am always misplacing! So when I stumbled onto some gorgeous decoupaged plates from John Derian while shopping and thought I should give my own version a try to serve that purpose. This is hardly a new idea but this particular project was one of the easiest DIY projects I've ever done so I just had to share.

I'm tempted to make an entire wall of them or make some variations as gifts but this version will do for now. If there is one thing that I'm not, its organized. So if I can work in some reminders for myself into decor, that is always a welcome addition. I designed the plate with an image of the brain from Gray's Anatomy and got to work. I printed the image on an inkjet knowing it would get a bit faded and cloudy from the water and glue. Using wet hands, push all of the airbubbles out of the paper. Voila! What do you think? Sew a bed canopy. The bed canopy is the simplest way to evoke a plein aire bedroom: a quilting hoop and sheer fabric. Conjure up soft tropical breezes no matter where you live with this sheer hoop canopy.

The airy fabric cascades down from a large wooden embroidery hoop, which is suspended above the bed. The fabric is gathered and crimped between the hoop rings. To evoke the mosquito netting used in the tropics, select a light, sheer fabric. For other dramatic looks, wrap the panels of the canopy over or through an open headboard or tie a loose overhand knot in the lower third of each panel and rest the knots against the outside corners of the bed.

Dominos {Giant Syle} I am in the process of redecorating our play/game room. I decided to include some over-sized game pieces for an added element of fun. I went with a couple of my hubs favorites to start with chess and dominos. I figured I could easily make some dominos of my own, so that's just what I did. I thought of using birth dates as the numbers to make them even more significant, but quickly decided against that realizing that the 27th would just not fit. ;) Instead, I went with our anniversary date.

It has been soooo long since this first post went up and I thought it would be fun to include some updated photos of this mirror and show you how it has been used over the years. Still using it and loving it! Where ol' girl currently lives in our Houston house. Check out my tutorial below so you can make one of your own! Remember the teaser of my new sunburst mirror... Well here she is in all her glory! She's nice and beefy, and has lots of texture. It's hard to tell in these photos (because we haven't had sun outside our windows in DAYS), but she has a really nice shine too. Here's how I did it! I'm certainly not the first to make a wood shim mirror, I've seen several versions around blogland. What you'll need: STEP ONE: Lay out your wood shims to figure out a pattern you like. STEP TWO: Using wood glue, glue the individual shims in your 5 and 7 groupings together.

STEP THREE: Once your groups of shims are dry, arrange them back into the exact pattern you want them to be in once finished. Cost: A Man Who Crafts. How To Make A Stylish Photo Frame For Several Photos. Here is a simple yet stylish photo frame that can accomodate quite many photos at once. The idea is very simple. Fasten twines on the empty frame and hang photos using clothes pins on them. You can use a frame you bought or a frame you made by yourself. To make it you just need to find some wood strips, sand them, paint or stain them and fasten together with the staples and nails. Yes, everything is as simple as it sounds. Lune's Dream Catcher - How To. NOTE: This post was originally published on April 20th, 2011. Supplies: large metal loop (wire macrame hoop) thrifted lacy doily (thinner fibers like doilies made of mercerized cotton work the best) small ball of inexpensive light weight yarn (cotton/poly blend for less fray) clothes pins or clips decorations (feathers, shells, stones, jewelry pieces) Instead of the traditional dream catcher style method of wrapping a loop with leather lacing (see here how to create a traditional dream catcher), I covered the metal hoop with a multi colored light weight yarn.

If you've used a knotting method to cover your loop - make sure the braid is straight and decide which side will be the face of your dream catcher. Lay your doily in the center of the hoop to decide which way is up. It's time to start stretching and tying the web of your dreamer. I also left all ties with two loose ends dangling. I created another dreamer, this time with a beautiful piece of lace. Did you like this Lune DIY? How to Make Cherry Blossom Lights. Booze it Up! 13 Rad Recycled Bottle Crafts & Projects.
