Arron Banks And Other Brexit Campaigners Referred To National Crime Agency Over 'Suspected Criminal Offences' During Referendum. Arron Banks and other leading pro-Brexit campaigners are being investigated by the National Crime Agency (NCA) over suspicions they committed “multiple” criminal offences during the EU referendum. The Brexiteers were referred to police by the Electoral Commission, which said it had grounds to believe they had committed numerous criminal acts relating to millions of pounds of funding for the Leave.EU campaign. The Commission suggested Mr Banks was “not the true source” of £8m of donations.

It follows an investigation by the watchdog into Leave.EU’s spending during the 2016 campaign. The group has already been fined £70,000 over spending irregularities. It was bankrolled by Mr Banks, a major donor to Ukip, and featured senior Brexiteers including Nigel Farage. It was managed under the umbrella of the Better for the Country group, which has also been referred to the NCA. The agency has opened a criminal investigation into the matter. “‘At the same time, we have evidence of Mr. Tips To Choose The Dependable Block Paving Company. Image copyright PA The UK has experienced more weather extremes over the last 10 years when compared with previous decades, a Met Office report has said. The hottest days have become almost 1C hotter, warm spells have increased, while the coldest days are not as cold. The number of so-called tropical nights - when temperatures stay above 20C - is increasing. The Met Office says these changes are consistent with warming driven by human activities.

The new study compares UK weather data from the period 1961-1990 with the 10 years between 2008 and 2017. Media playback is unsupported on your device The study finds that on average the hottest day in each year over the recent 10-year period is 0.8C warmer than it was when compared to the earlier decades. The coldest days and nights have also become warmer, with temperatures on average 1.7C milder in recent years. 'Cities Of Tents': Trump Heightens Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric At White House. Donald Trump has stepped up his rhetorical attack over immigration ahead of next week’s midterm elections, using a White House address on Thursday to float what is possibly an unconstitutional clampdown on asylum-seekers – and hinted that even people throwing stones while at the US border could be targeted with military firepower.

In a session lasting almost an hour in the Roosevelt Room, Trump talked tough on immigration but failed to deliver much in the way of specifics. White House aides had previously billed the event inaccurately as a policy announcement. In lurid language that resembled one of his rally speeches more than a presidential address, he vowed to prevent the “violent” Central American migrant caravan heading to the southern border from “invading” the country.

He said a comprehensive executive order would be released next week, though it was not clear what it would contain. “We are not releasing any more. . … we have a small favour to ask. It seems as though there’s little that can make Victoria Beckham smile these days – at least in public anyway. But judging by her recent holiday snaps, the key to cracking a smile might have been there all along – simply fly the former Spice Girls star Down Under, place her in front of a kangeroo, et voila: we have a smile, people!

The mum-of-four took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a selection of pictures from the Beckhams’ family trip to Australia, in which she headed to Sydney’s Symbio Wildlife Park with her husband David and their children Romeo, 16, Cruz, 13, and Harper, seven. The 44-year-old fashionista flashed a smile from ear-to-ear as she posed with a family of kangaroos and cuddled a Tasmanian devil, while daughter Harper cradled a possum and son Romeo fed a lively wallaby some grub. Meanwhile, Cruz appeared somewhat surprised – read: overwhelmed – as he held a large reptile in his arms, pulling a shocked face to his mum as she took a picture.

Media playback is unsupported on your device Sir Philip Green has said it was "outrageous" for Lord Hain to name him as the man who prevented the Telegraph publishing allegations of sexual and racial harassment. He said the Labour peer also failed to disclose his financial links to the law firm representing the newspaper. Sir Philip has denied the allegations and said he would lodge a formal complaint with the House of Lords. Lord Hain insisted naming the retail tycoon was in the public interest. But in a statement to the BBC, Sir Philip said: "As many people have said, Lord Hain's blatant disregard of a judgement made by three senior judges is outrageous. " Why is Sir Philip Green in the news? The tycoon has been the centre of an eight-month investigation by the Daily Telegraph.

The paper says that former employees of Sir Philip have accused him of sexual and racial harassment. But the Court of Appeal granted Sir Philip an injunction, preventing the paper from naming him. Bullish Varadkar Issues Brexit Warning - 'We Have A Huge Difficulty' Speaking to the media during a visit to Derry, the Taoiseach (prime minister) said he was "confident but not complacent" that a hard border can be avoided after the UK leaves the European Union. Mr Varadkar also criticised the ongoing suspension of the Northern Ireland Executive, saying it meant that the region's voice was not being heard as it should be in the Brexit negotiations. He said: “People in Northern Ireland from both communities and all communities are losing out because we don't have a functioning Executive and Assembly to support decisions that have to be made around healthcare and major infrastructure projects.

"For us in Ireland, we have a huge difficulty in not being able to ensure that north-south bodies operate when they were operating well for so long, co-operation around health, infrastructure. “But Simon Coveney and I are really going to be working over the next few weeks to get agreement between the UK and the EU. Kurtis Baute: Scientist leaves airtight dome after 15 hours. Image copyright Instagram/kbaute A self-styled "whimsical scientist" who locked himself in an airtight dome with 200 plants to raise awareness of climate change has ended his experiment.

Canadian Kurtis Baute entered the 3m (10ft) by 3m cube - which was wrapped in heavy-duty plastic - at midnight on Tuesday in British Columbia. But he was forced abandon his attempt after 15 hours as CO2 levels rose. He thanked fans and described the experience as a "huge success". He tweeted throughout his time in the dome under the hashtag #KurtisInAJar.

The air humans breathe out has more CO2 in it than the air we inhale, which meant that CO2 levels inside the dome rose as the experiment continued. When the CO2 level hits 10%, people can suffer brain-damage, fall into a coma, or die. Mr Baute had hoped that the plants, which use sunlight to convert CO2 into oxygen during photosynthesis, would help to regulate CO2 levels in the dome. 1. 2. 3. Tim Cook blasts 'weaponisation' of personal data and praises GDPR. Image copyright Getty Images Apple chief executive Tim Cook has demanded a tough new US data protection law, in an unusual speech in Europe. Referring to the misuse of "deeply personal" data, he said it was being "weaponised against us with military efficiency". "We shouldn't sugar-coat the consequences," he added.

"This is surveillance. " The strongly-worded speech presented a striking defence of user privacy rights from a tech firm's chief executive. Mr Cook also praised the EU's new data protection regulation, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The new law came into force in May. Mr Cook's speech was made in Brussels, at the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners. The Apple boss described in some detail what he called the "data industrial complex", noting that billions of dollars were traded on the basis of people's "likes and dislikes", "wishes and fears" or "hopes and dreams" - the kind of data points tracked by tech firms and advertisers.

Nearly 90% of free apps on the Google Play store share data with Google parent company Alphabet, the Financial Times reported.

Google said it had clear policies for how developers could handle data, and that the research had mischaracterised some "ordinary functions" of apps. "If an app violates our policies, we take action," the online giant said. Many free apps track behaviour across many different digital services, which lets companies build up a detailed profile of people using the app.

This data can include age, gender, location, and information about other apps on a smartphone. The data can then be used for a number of purposes including targeted advertising, credit scoring, or targeted political campaign messages, the researchers said in a paper. Revenues from online advertising are more than $59bn (£45bn) per year in the US alone, they said.

Double Glazing Repairs Hampshire. How WhatsApp is being abused in Brazil's elections. Image copyright Getty Images Political campaigners in Brazil have used software that scrapes Facebook for citizens' phone numbers, and then automatically sends them WhatsApp messages and adds them to WhatsApp groups. Almost three weeks ago, 147 million voters in the country went to the polls for legislative elections and the first round of the presidential elections. This Sunday, they will decide between far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro and the left-wing Workers' Party candidate Fernando Haddad, in the second round of the presidential election. A BBC investigation has discovered that efforts to support various parties and candidates - covering state, federal and senate votes - have used the bulk message technique.

Why is WhatsApp being targeted? WhatsApp is not just used as a private messaging app in Brazil. As a result, the platform has taken on some of the roles filled by social networks in other countries. WhatsApp claims 120 million Brazilians currently use its service. WhatsApp limits. Driveways Reading. NHS Supplier That Kept Body Parts Faces Criminal Investigation. A criminal investigation has been launched into how a major NHS supplier employed by dozens of hospital trusts retained body parts including amputated limbs and waste from cancer treatment. The Environment Agency said Healthcare Environmental Services (HES) had breached its permits at five sites in England that deal with clinical waste.

“We are taking enforcement action against the operator, which includes clearance of the excess waste, and have launched a criminal investigation,” the EA said. “We are supporting the government and the NHS to ensure there is no disruption to public services and for alternative plans to be put in place for hospitals affected to dispose of their waste safely.” With pressure building on the government, the Labour MP Yvette Cooper asked why parliament had not been told that the health secretary, Matt Hancock, chaired a Cobra committee meeting last month amid concern about a potential health hazard over the firm’s failure to get rid of the waste.
