WFMU held a showcase independent of the SXSW Festival at the great Beerland in Austin TX on March 17th. It was a 6-band blowout featuring Electric Jellyfish , Death of Samantha , The Wedding Present , Supreme Dicks , Xray Eyeballs and The Men . We aired sets live over WFMU (91.1/90.1-FM NY/NJ) with a stream at wfmu.org (and many FMA jams blastin thru the soundsystem betweens sets!).

For the record, we at Cherrypeel oppose anything that would have a chilling effect on freedom of speech and therefore we outright oppose SOPA. We know not whether it will become signed into law, but the message has been received quite loud and clear: the guilded-era of unencumbered proliferation of UGC is likely over and while we stand in support of our brothers and sisters who continue to fight in opposition of SOPA, we have chosen to take a different tactic in response. It is time for us to adapt and change, rather than fight a losing battle with large, multinational corporations who posses extensive legislative influence. Historically, oppressive government measures have engendered large underground subcultures that have led to some of the greatest flourishes of artistic creativity in history.

Can a Metallica album be too loud? The very thought might seem heretical to fans of the legendary metal band, which has been splitting eardrums with unrivaled power since the early 1980s. But even though Metallica's ninth studio release, "Death Magnetic," is No. 1 on the album chart, with 827,000 copies sold in two weeks, some fans are bitterly disappointed: not by the songs or the performance, but the volume. It's so loud, they say, you can't hear the details of the music. "Death Magnetic" is a flashpoint in a long-running music-industry fight.
