Vibram Five Fingers. The History of Programming Languages - O'Reilly Media. For 50 years, computer programmers have been writing code. New technologies continue to emerge, develop, and mature at a rapid pace. Now there are more than 2,500 documented programming languages! O'Reilly has produced a poster called History of Programming Languages (PDF: 701K), which plots over 50 programming languages on a multi-layered, color-coded timeline. How It Started We first saw the "History of Programming Languages" diagram, created by Éric Lévénez, while visiting our French office. About the O'Reilly Poster "Cool" is generally the first thing we heard from people who reviewed our poster.

Getting Your Copy The poster is available online in PDF format (701k). How a teenager beat everyone to the iPhone 4G scoop by TWO months. You’ve probably read enough about the iPhone 4G today to last a life time so let me get straight to the heart of this short story. This amusing little tale is how an average American teenager posted a photo of the iPhone 4G on twitpic on February 22nd of this year – two months before images found their way to Engadget. The teenager (we’re intentionally not mentioning his name) presumed the picture was a fake and forgot about it. You can only imagine his excitement though when an identical photo was posted on Engadget and he realised he’d spotted the new iPhone 4G long before any gadget blog on the planet even had a whiff of the story.

How did this random teenager get his hands on the image? HTML5 Readiness. How Much Energy Per Tweet? iPad 3G to ship in the US by May 7th. Apple in the US has updated its online store today, adding a shipping date and pre-order buttons for the different versions of the iPad 3G. And it looks like Americans will be able to lay their hands on the the 3G variant of the device “by May 7th”. As with the Wi-Fi model, each customer is currently able to pre-order a maximum of just two iPads online. Pricing: $629 for the 16GB iPad 3G, $729 for the 32GB model and $829 for the 64GB model (needless to say, these 3G iPads are Wi-Fi-enabled as well, which is why Apple calls them “iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G”).

Advertisements Engadget has got hold of a prototype model, which according to them is “very much” the next-gen iPhone that Apple is expected to release in June of this year. This prototype model was found in an iPhone 3G case, at a bar in San Jose, California. While they aren’t exactly sure on whether this is the prototype, or a real production model, what they have found was that the model had a front facing camera for video conferencing, 80GB of flash storage (which kind of strange), and that it was said to be running on the latest iPhone OS 4 (though it wasn’t booting at the time they saw it). The next-generation iPhone, along with iPhone OS 4 are expected to be unveiled this summer, probably on June 22 at the annual WWDC conference. A CDMA version of iPhone on Verizon is also expected to be announced at the same event.

Hence it is not too surprising to hear that HTC might be joining the latest craze by building its own Android tablet. This new rumor arises from a press conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, where the company was launching a few of its latest smartphones. Quinton Leigh, HTC Managing Director for the country, stated that it is developing an Android tablet to compete with rivals such as the iPad, as well as new audio/visual features for its smartphones, including 1080p full HD video recording and 5.1 surround sound. No other details of this potential tablet were forthcoming, but Mr. Leigh did add that it might not be an actual tablet. 100 Years of Consumer Spending | Spending habits have changed significantly over the last century. We have seen great increases in the percentage of income that is allocated to housing and transportation compared to spending on food and clothing, which has fallen. The following is a detailed look of consumer spending and how it has changed over the last 100 years.

Spending At The Turn Of The Century In 1901, food and housing took up about 60 percent of people’s incomes. About 40 percent of a consumer’s income was spent on food and about 20 percent of a consumer’s income was spent on housing. 20 percent was spent on apparel while virtually nothing was spent on transportation. Health care took up about 5 percent, entertainment was2 percent and books were 1 percent. The War Years Between the years of 1934 to 1946, food and housing together took up about 60 percent of incomes, with 34 percent used for food and 26 percent for housing.

Ainsi, Gartner y va de la prédiction suivante : «By 2012, Facebook will become the hub for social networks integration and Web socialization.» Ce qui implique que Facebook devrait cannibaliser les autres réseaux sociaux, qu’il y aurait une restructuration de l’offre sur le marché de la socialisation sur le Web.

Android 8-levels of secrecy. Nice article at How does Google control what services, software and hardware ships in Android handsets? The search giant has built an elaborate system of control points around Android handsets. To dig deeper we spent two months talking to industry sources close to Android commercials – and the reality has been startling. From a high level, Google uses 8 control points to manage the make-up of Android handsets: I love Android, yet I am also the webmaster of the Archos Fans community. Archos is basically so far still the only Android Tablet manufacturer in the world (although 50+ Android Tablets have been shown at trade shows, nearly none of those are yet available on the market).

This whole unofficial Google Apps deal is absolutely not sustainable, it’s like some kind of cyanogen thing. I see it a bit like some kind of trojan horse approach. How Could Android Ever Be Considered “The Evil OS”? | Android Phone Fans. When we think about Android, we often see it as the greener grass beyond the lucrative fence separating the dark and gloomy farm from the healthy-looking fields of grass, trees, and colorful selection of flora growing about. I understand that everyone may not buy into Google’s “Don’t Be Evil” mantra as easily as others – and I get that it might not even ring true in everything that Google as a company does – but I’m finding it rather difficult to imagine how Android, of all other Google entities, could be considered evil.

Andreas Constantinou – a research director for VisionMobile Ltd. – voiced his opinion on the open nature of Google’s mobile OS on the company’s blog today claiming that “…Android might be the most closed system in the history of open source.” That one line in and of itself is more than enough reason for me to warrant a response to his opinion. Maybe you’re an experienced musician who knows the importance of a perfectly pitched instrument.

Or, maybe for old time’s sake, you want to revive that awfully out of tune guitar that’s been rotting away in your attic since who knows when. Either way, an ugly plastic tuner will cost you a good $15 at your local music shop. Save yourself a little time and money and download gStrings, a handy little chromatic tuner (with a suggestive title) that should never leave a musician’s side. The cost? Free ninety-free. In spite of my skepticism of a cell phones capability to measure an instrument’s pitch, this tuner is exceptionally accurate. In case you get tired of the color scheme, the app comes with a total of 7 skins. Although gStrings is a free application, there is a donate version available in the market for about $4, with double the processing power. If you’re a musician of any sort, this is simply a must have.

The optical joystick/trackpad is another feature that we are coming to expect from these devices, so no ground won or lost for the Sirius there. On to the few possible dark clouds on the horizon for this device. I tried reaching Pantech for confirmation on some of the missing specs, but they have yet to respond.
