Game Design Theory

This page is meant to provide links to what I refer to as game design theory. What is game design theory? Game design theory is a set of fundamental questions about games, game design and the game designer, i.e. what is a game? What is game design? What is a game designer? The difference between tools and theory is that tools are specific to operational design knowledge, while theory is general game design knowledge.

CRM failure rates: 2001-2009 | ZDNet

Discussions about failed CRM projects often begin with statistics describing failure rates. To facilitate those conversations, here’s a summary of CRM failure stats for the period 2001-2009. This table lists the year, organization conducting the research, and reported failure rate. As described below, measurement differences make comparing rate changes across years difficult at best. 2001 Gartner Group: 50%. Gartner released numerous CRM-related reports during the 2001-2002 period. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/projectfailures/crm-failure-rates-2001-2009/4967

To get our heads all the way around Google+ , it helps to remember Microsoft’s Hailstorm initiative from ten years ago. Think of Google+ as Hailstorm done right, or at least better. (That is, for Google.) http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/vrm/2011/08/28/circling-around-your-wallet/

The IMP Group was originally formed in the mid 1970s, as a research project on “Industrial Marketing and Purchasing”, by a group of researchers representing five European countries and universities; the Universities of Uppsala, Bath, UMIST, ESC Lyon and the Ludwig Maximilians University (Munich). A dynamic model of buyer-supplier relationships, the Interaction Model, was developed and used in comparative empirical studies of industrial marketing and purchasing within and across a number of European countries (France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and UK). A common experience from these early investigations of about 900 business relationships was that business exchange cannot be understood as series of disembedded and independent transactions of given resources – but rather as complex relationships between buying and selling organisations, where what is exchanged is created in interaction.
