Make Meeting Times Inconvenient To Get Better Results | Lifehack. Finding a meeting time that works for everyone often requires lots of back-and-forth email and schedule shuffling. But under some circumstances, picking the most inconvenient time may actually be a better option. Picture by pulsarin That rather counter-intuitive suggestion came from Leslie Hawthorn, a program manager at Google. during a presentation at linux.conf.au on how to get involved with open source software.

A common problem with open source projects is that scheduled online meetings will often be at awkward times, especially for Australian participants. While one solution to that might be using a collaboration environment like Wave, Hawthorn had a more radical suggestion. “Have a meeting at the time that’s inconvenient for most people,” she suggested. The downside? It’s not a strategy that will work for every kind of meeting, but it’s something to consider if you want to get genuinely committed people involved, especially with online meetings across multiple countries.

Bloody and Horrifying Stationary Will Keep Employees In Check | If you were wondering what it is like to work in a TV channel that is dedicated to horror and crime, it sure must be real fun. Take for example the case of 13th Street, the most famous crime and horror channel in Germany. They recently commissioned an agency to design stationary that would reveal the true personality of the channel and its employees. The envelopes, the letterheads, the business cards are all horror-filled, and you could see the blood oozing out of the employees’ pictures. It sure is a macabre way to create an identity for its employees and for the channel itself. However, the bloodthirsty corporate design is truly remarkable and scary, and reflects the attitude of the horror TV channel in an apt manner.

Moreover, it is a great way to make sure that the bills are paid on time, and dues are cleared punctually when someone receives an invoice from the 13th Street. Via: Geekologie.

iGoogle. Apophenia » Blog Archive » Facebook and “radical transparency” ( At SXSW, I decided to talk about privacy because I thought that it would be the most important issue of the year. I was more accurate than my wildest dreams. For the last month, I’ve watched as conversations about privacy went from being the topic of the tech elite to a conversation that’s pervasive. The press coverage is overwhelming – filled with infographics and a concerted effort by journalists to make sense of and communicate what seems to be a moving target.

I commend them for doing so. My SXSW used a bunch of different case studies but folks focused on two: Google and Facebook. As most of you know, Facebook has been struggling to explain its privacy-related decisions for the last month while simultaneously dealing with frightening security issues. Amidst all of what’s going on, everyone is anxiously awaiting David Kirkpatrick’s soon-to-be-released “The Facebook Effect.” which basically outlines the early days of the company.
