Upgrading 1.6.5 to 1.7

1.7 introduces a Quick Update for sites already up-to-date with Joomla 1.6.5 or 1.6.6. If your site is not already at 1.6.5 or 1.6.6, or you prefer not to use the Quick Update, there are several other options shown here. Click the 'tab' of the method you would like to use for updating your Joomla 1.6 web site. For sites already up-to-date running Joomla 1.6.5, upgrading to Joomla 1.7 is now very easy. Before you begin: Check that all installed extensions are compatible with Joomla 1.7 by checking the JED Listing or developer site.

Upgrade Joomla! 1.5.x to 1.7.x

1.5.x website that needs upgrading to 1.7.x? This tutorial will show you how, step by step. Before attempting to upgrade, you should always take a backup of your site. Akeeba backup is great for this, as it allows you to backup to the cloud, download, or store the backup on your server. You can get akeeba backup here: This will install like any component you've installed before, through the Extensions menu, then Install/Uninstall. Once the backup is complete, we can begin to upgrade. You'll need a component called jupgrade. Install this in exactly the same way as you did with the akeeba backup file. Above the big green "Start Upgrade" button, you may see a line of text stating that "Mootools 1.2 not loaded", if not, skip to the next paragraph.

Click on the big green "Start Upgrade" button, and jupgrade will begin to upgrade your Joomla! If all goes well, you should be presented with this. It says here that your site has been upgraded to Joomal! Upgrading a Joomla 1.5 template to Joomla 1.6.
