Pottery Video of the Week: How to Combine Homemade Customizable Underglaze Transfers With Paper Stencils for a Beautiful Layered Effect

I had been wanting to create pictorial imagery on my work, but was not having much luck with it. This was probably because I’m not the best at drawing on flat paper, let alone on a curved, three-dimensional surface. That’s where image transfer techniques come in. There are many different techniques for doing image transfers on clay and, in today’s video (filmed at that Potters Council conference I mentioned earlier), Erin demonstrates one of my favorites.

This one allows you to make your own personalized transfer paper, kind of like the rice paper transfers that are available commercially. – Jennifer Harnetty, editor. HANDMADE

You can own a machine-made, digitally crafted replica or a one of a kind that is imperfect, tactile and unique. The eclectic stylist Emma Freemantle a curator and collector at heart is a lover of anything hand- made. Her label 'worn with love' established in 2007 expresses her passion for creating one of a kind pieces from treasures she finds at charity shops, car boot sales, flea markets and house clearances. Her signature headdresses are inspired by her travels to South America and Asia and reference the twenties, sixties with some Navajo thrown in.

The paper bowls are fully absorbing their local environment, using natural spices and herbs from the local market for dying the paper in different hues. Making a teapot is considered a milestone for many people learning pottery, and it’s often presented as an intellectual challenge.

30 Minute Teapot

While some get intimidated and struggle to complete their first one, making a teapot becomes easier and more fun the more you make. Teapots are an exercise in designing a three-dimensional structure as well as studying function, proportion, and surface decoration. This 30-minute teapot project offers an opportunity for instructors to talk about teapot mechanics, while allowing students to experiment with design elements.

It seems easier for my students to make their first teapot with handbuilding techniques because they have more control over the forms and sizes. I consider this a good exercise before proceeding to more complicated, time-intensive projects. 10 Steps to a 30-Minute Teapot 1. 2. 3. Pottery Video: How to Enhance Texture with One Versatile Glaze and Some Colorants. Precise Imprecision. Artist Statement Fundamental to my production of utilitarian pottery is the forging of connections that simultaneously enrich lives and celebrate the positive aspects of humanity.

Precise Imprecision

My pottery is about these very entities: material, form, utility, interaction and experience; through the exploration of these entities, I intend to re-engage the user with the vessel. Utilitarian pots are to be used—to be touched, held, filled, emptied, cleaned, and shared. These attributes define and direct my artistic pursuit. Reveling in the expressive potential of clay’s materiality—its willingness to glisten and stretch, fold and fissure—I draw connections between the ceramic vessel and the human body to sanction a means of understanding, a postern to the familiar.

I hope to enhance our breaks in the day—modest endeavors such as afternoon coffee, conversation, and sharing in drink with friends. How to Make a Ceramic Tile Model with Relief Decoration for a Plaster Press Mold. Already Registered?

After seeing Adam Field work, I am eager to give it a try. And after editing Adam’s DVD, Precision Throwing, Intricate Carving, I am equipped with a lot more knowledge on how to do it successfully!
