Jaime Hayón for Choemon-gama. Jaime Hayón, photo (c) Nienke Klunder They say that the most important mergers and creative deals happen outside the board room. In this case one of the most creative mergers between great craftsmanship and great design inspiration commenced by a simple question posed at the Designtide Tokyo in 2009 by Maruwakaya a neo-traditional Japanese product design brand, headed by Hirotoshi Maruwaka, established in 2007. The question was addressed to our much beloved and adored Jaime Hayón and it went something like :‘Would you be interested in collaborating with Kamide-Choemon-gama to produce new ceramic crafts combining your creativeness in design and Choemon’s craftsman skill?’ The answer: ‘Yes’ photo (c) Nienke Klunder Simple as that and magic was created a few months later, with just a few words and an admirable atmosphere.Firstly in order to understand the brilliant greatness between these two great names we need to introduce a brief history on Kamide Choemon-gama.

Jaime Hayon's sketches for Baccarat words by Chantal Granier for Baccarat In Jaime, you can almost hear the word “gem.” And that’s a good way to characterize artist and designer Jaime Hayon. Half-conquistador, half-imp, this adventurer of design embraces life with an extraordinary creative zest, an immediate empathy for his nearest and dearest, and an infectious vitality. Skipping from one language to another in a heartbeat, he simultaneously chats in English as well as French, Italian and Spanish, all with a singular nonchalance and ease.

Jaime is a man of the present and the future, a decidedly optimisticmutant, equipped for a world with a brighter tomorrow. Born in Madrid thirty years ago, this Almodσvar of design is on a ceaseless quest for encounters and new lands. Jaime Hayon is a generous artist, and his work distills everything that has crossed his path. The recentmonograph on his work, published byGestalfen, captures the full range of his prolific and eclectic work. sources:
