Finishing up the Knobs... Here are the blank knobs that were thrown at the wheel last week, with a little bit of incising added.

Finishing up the Knobs...

I will probably make most of my knobs from low fire clay, especially those I need for my kitchen that will match my tile work there. I am sure that some of the knobs will find their way into the salt kiln, however. These were thrown from my regular stoneware clay, but it really doesn't matter since all of these will perish in the press-mold making process. Here is the freshly cast press mold, with 8 cavities for different knobs. The clay originals removed from the mold are scrap, and need to be dumped - not reclaimed - since they are contaminated with plaster scrapings. I have found that the easiest way to get a consistently sized knob is to extrude 1" coil, and then cut it to specific lengths to get the size ball I want. Here's a finished knob made from the first press mold.

Collect any promising bits and pieces you come across (that you are willing to dedicate to craft-only use). A few good places to start are your kitchen (or office) junk drawer, that little box or jar in the craft room where you put stuff that has no real use (but that you can't bear to throw away), and the jar where you store rancom bits of hardware (or the bottom of your tool box, or wherever else such odds and ends accumulate).

Look for (but don't limit yourself to) needles, buttons, screws, nuts, bolts, beads, bead caps, scraps from nonfunctional mechanical objects, gears, paper clips, grommets, washers, pieces of pens, scraps and findings from broken (or out-dated) fashion jewelry, chains, orphan earrings, wires, springs, coins, seashells, and small stones, pebbles, or gravel. Oven-safe bits and pieces are best. (Think metal and glass.) How to Make a Slab Pot: Using Textured Slabs to Create Square Nesting Bowls. To get a square-ish form from a round slab requires removing darts of clay.

After experimenting with different dart ratios, I settled on somewhere between a third and a half of the radius. To make the darts template, I traced around the scallops on the cutting edge of the tart tin. Ignoring the low points of the scallops, I cut out a circle and folded it along two perpendicular diameters, so that the folds made a perfect cross. Traduction. August 2010

Great time had by all, and was kind of the big debut of the band, only to find out that we are probably going to have to change the name. Were working on it now, but everyone has been shortening the name to "Bogstompers" and I'm sure that the bogstompers located in northern vermont may object to us. Ah well, we just need a name before the next booking which is on the 11th of September at the Pourhouse in Trumansburd NY. Should be a good time and the Ithaca area loves old time music and they serve good beer there. And after looking at the billing, "Pond Creek Bogstompers" is the billing so we may be sticking with it for a while.

Anyone in the area that pays attention to this thing, you should come out and check it out...we don't disappoint. Résultats Google Recherche d'images correspondant à.
