Programming Languages Influence Network | Exploring Data. 19 apps that already look perfect for iOS 7. Editor’s Note: The following is a guest post by Ryan Matzner of Fueled. Fueled is a digital product design and development incubator based in New York, Chicago and London. When Apple unveiled iOS 7 to the world on June 10th, it marked the culmination of a massive shift in design aesthetic across the nearly 1 million apps. From the very beginning, app designers and developers took design cues from Apple. The company even offered a document outlining Apple’s official iOS design philosophy. When the original iPhone launched in 2007, the design was lauded as a masterpiece. Those designs were heavily influenced by skeuomorphic principals, making heavy use of real-world analogies (think leather binding on the calendar or a lense for the camera app) as a way to gently introduce users to the new frontier of the iPhone.

It’s safe to say that users today are familiar with how to use their iPhones but those original iOS designs, largely unchanged for over half a decade, have begun to look stale. Living in the technology and startup ecosystem, we are constantly bombarded with the latest hot new app, device, technology, or company. They get their 15 minutes of fame and then something newer, hotter, and latest-er comes along to replace them. But every now and then, something sticks around for a while. Since it’s nearly impossible to sort through the noise when talking to my technology friends, I’ve taken to listening to family and friends who are far away from the tech scene – most of whom still don’t “get” Twitter, can’t understand what all the fuss is about with Apple products, and would be willing to bet that Sand Hill Road was on a beach in Mexico.

Last year, those friends all seemed to suddenly discover and start posting photos from Instagram, music from Spotify was showing up in my Facebook Ticker, and I was bombarded with old friends from high school joining Pinterest. This is a guest post by technology executive John De Goes “Big data” is dead. Vendors killed it. Well, industry leaders helped, and the media got the ball rolling, but vendors hold the most responsibility for the painful, lingering death of one of the most overhyped and poorly understood terms since the phrase “cloud computing.” Any established vendor offering a storage or analytics product for a tiny or a large amount of data is now branded as big data, even if their technology is exactly the same as it was 5 years ago (thank you, marketing departments!).

The phrase “big data” is now beyond completely meaningless. If you want proof, witness the rising tide of backlash against the term: RIP Big Data. Meaningful jargon for 2013 Smart Data? Data Science? NewSQL? Life after Big Data.
