Starting today, you also have interest lists—a whole new way to keep up with stuff you care about and tidy up your experience on Facebook. Interest lists can help you turn Facebook into your own personalized newspaper, with special sections—or feeds—for topics that matter to you. You can find traditional news sections like Business, Sports and Style or get much more personalized—like Tech News, NBA Players, and Art Critics. Interests feature public figures and Pages related to a particular topic, and are put together by people like you. In the coming weeks, you’ll see the Add Interests link in your left-hand bookmarks. The Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN) began running a campaign to send 50 nonprofits to the Nonprofit Technology Conference, and the new layout and actions within Causes caught my eye. Causes features videos, commenting, sharing, and of course full Facebook integration with the new Timeline. Causes looks and feels different from its previous iteration; it feels like a campaign center and no longer a Facebook add-on or a stand-alone online fundraising website.

Raising funds for a cause isn’t just about asking for money; successful fundraising campaigns include storytelling elements, peer to peer fundraising, and a campaign center. Causes has all of these elements built into its new platform, including video integration, petitions, sharing elements, polls, and commenting features. Facebook recently announced that they would be discontinuing their support of the Static FBML app in favor of iframes. From a marketing perceptive this is actually some great news as FBML was pretty restrictive on what was and wasn't allowed within Facebook. I decided to investigate how much of pain is involved in setting up a custom tab on Facebook using an iframe. As it turns out, it's actually not to difficult. Below is a video with setup instructions step-by-step and a screenshot guide if you don't want to watch the video. Timeline apps are the next iteration of Facebook’s Open Graph, Facebook’s way of connecting users to Facebook through real-time actions on the web. Facebook is promoting this as the new way to know what your friends are doing, in real time. I’m a bit more realistic: this roll out offers Facebook and application developers a lot of information about what you like to do. I think this is a potential game-changer for how brands and organizations will use Facebook. What is the Timeline app? In simple language: version one of the Open Graph was a Facebook user Liking things on the web, and connecting those actions integrated back into Facebook.
