El proyecto GALPon Mini surge de la necesidad de disponer de una distribución actualizada, en gallego y castellano, para ordenadores reciclados provenientes de la Universidad de Vigo ( Grupo de Reciclaxe informático da Universidade de VIgo GRUVI ). El área de software de GRUVI está coordinado por miembros de GALPon ( Grupo de Amigos de Linux de Pontevedra ). El proyecto Minino comenzó como un intento de construir una distro medianamente actualizada para ordenadores bien hechos, es decir, máquinas que aguantan como ninguna el peso de los años, el polvo, las temperaturas extremas, los golpes, las subidas de tensión y a los numerosos manazas que aporrearon sus teclados y cacharrearon con sus tripas.

Although it's using Romeo for unstable packages, LMDE continuously changes as it receives updates and new software. Compared to a frozen version of Linux Mint which changes very little once it's publicly released, it's not as stable. Things are likely to break more often but fixes can also come quicker. For this reason, LMDE requires a deeper knowledge and experience with Linux, dpkg and APT.

Emotion is a library to handle video playback using Gstreamer, Xine or other external plugins (VLC) and display video in Evas as a standard object. It also can handle audio playback too.
