The upcoming trends across genres will include a strong (re)focusing on relocalisation ~ of industry, but also of everyday life ; a re-appreciation of 'the little things', particularly the aspects of life nearby or 'in our own backyard', the importance of community & friends, & of in-person interactions / connection prioritised over those done via technology.
This moodboard is an imagining of the various ways these trends have emerged over time ~ originally, during the Art-Deco period, & then again throughout the 20th Century (i.e. '1960s-1970s does 1920s-1930s' / '2000s does 1970s does 1930s' / &c.) ~ & the ease of employability of all these trends in current-day design & life, by virtue of the practice of intentionally repeating, a practice which the eras have utilised in the past (employing a nod to each era, not just copying it).
This last aspect is of particular importance in upcoming trends : the degree to which, when done with the intention to honour the past & not steal (which can happen by not recognising the sources), the whole narrative can be told, which intrinsically gives rise to more understanding within the general public of one's place within history & how each individual action makes a difference, collectively.
Equally, whereas aspects of past production were not necessarily the most sustainable (big euphemism) when 'scaled up' by industrial practices, by utilising modern tools greater sustainability can be achieved via active investment in scaling-up of practices like re-use of preloved items & using what already exists ; as well as the use of modern technology such as textile / fibre recycling, or simply more modern & large-scale use of older practices such as vegetable dyeing.
These aspects are mentioned not simply as a parallel importance, but because the method, itself, & the reinvention of former practices will be a HUGE & over-arching trend, across all sectors, industries, & genres.
