Openings for black against 1.d4

Of course it looks very much like a Pircs defence and both often get grouped in the same way, but maybe with time you will gain experience playing in a hypermodern way, and see the same ideas in time. Of course you have to play the plans differently against e4 and d4, but you will see many different ideas. There is simply no easy answer against 1. d4 because there are less sensible options you can employ against it - typically d5 and Nf6 are the replies most often seen. Maybe a system might be the way forward? I like kamus' suggestion - the Albin Counter-Gambit and certainly think that is a viable try. Aperturas. Lesson 15: Modern methods for training a chess player.

Petrosian Chess Club (Moscow) According to the patriarch of Soviet chess, Mikhail Botvinnik, four basic principles that form a chess player's strength are chess talent, a strong character, health and special preparation.
