The call you will find below has already been signed by public figures and members of various European Jewish associations who have long been committed to the struggle for peace in the Middle East, and whose names you’ll find below. Our objective is to allow the opinions of European Jews, who have been silent for too long, to be expressed publicly and to allow a Jewish voice to be heard that is both committed to the state of Israel and critical of the current choices of its government. Revue de presse : "Des personnalités juives européennes engagées pour une paix entre Israéliens et Palestiniens lancent un “appel à la raison”, jugeant notamment “dangereux” un “alignement systématique sur la politique du gouvernement israélien”. Le mouvement, intitulé J Call, pour “European jewish call for reason” devrait être officialisé le 3 mai à Bruxelles. Il sera présenté lundi lors d’une réunion au Parlement européen, selon le site de l’appel (www.jcall.eu) qui comptait mercredi à la mi-journée plus de 2.250 signataires, dont de très nombreux Français, Belges, Suisses, Italiens, etc.

A computer analyst and writer who was born in Tunisia, David Chemla lived in Israel for 10 years, served in the Israel Defense Forces and today resides in Paris, where he serves as chair of Peace Now France. He spoke to Haaretz on his way to Brussels, where he was headed to present JCall's "European Jewish Call for Reason" petition to the European Parliament today. JCall is an initiative of public figures and intellectuals, such as Bernard-Henri Levy, Alain Finkielkraut and Daniel Cohn-Bendit, which seeks to make a new Jewish European voice heard on Israel-related issues. The petition being presented in Brussels underscores Israel's right to exist "as a Jewish and democratic state," but also criticizes Israeli policies - such as the continued settlement policy in the West Bank - and calls for a "viable and sovereign Palestinian state" alongside Israel.

L’appel JCall pour «European Jewsih Call For Reason» (l’appel à la raison juif européen) veut faire entendre une voix différente des juifs européens et notamment français. «L’alignement systématique sur la politique du gouvernement israélien est dangereux car il va à l’encontre des intérêts véritables de l’Etat d’Israël » affirme ce texte qui souligne le « danger» lié à «l’occupation» , dénonce «la poursuite ininterrompue des implantations en Cisjordanie ou dans les quartiers arabes de Jérusalem-est» qualifiées d’ «erreur politique» et de «faute morale» . Et surtout il appelle les Etats-Unis et l’Union Européenne à aider à imposer la paix : il ne peut y avoir de sécurité durable pour Israël sans un Etat palestinien stable.
