You will assist the warden on a busy nature reserve, with some occasional visists to Gernon Bushes and Hawksmere Springs Nature Reserve also owned by Essex Wildlife Trust. You will be provided with tools and suitable protective equipment but need to bring packed lunch and suitable clothing and footwear for the weather. Autumn/Winter works include hedge laying, scrub clearing and livestock handling. Spring/Summer is fencing, footpath maintenance and hay making. If you have a driving licence you are insured to drive the landrover and have the opportunity to drive tractors after a short course. Ther are also opportunities to go on to other courses such as First Aid, Chainsaw and Brushcutter.
Lesnes Abbey Conservation Volunteers (LACV) is a small local environmental conservation charity run by volunteers. The volunteers help maintain the native wildlife of Lesnes Abbey wood through practical environmental conservation events. LACV runs free practical environmental conservation events such as hedge laying, fencing, coppicing, heath land restoration, pond maintenance, shrub clearance & wildlife surveys. Events are normally every fortnight on a Sunday, starting behind the information centre (a map showing the meeting point can be seen in website site location section) near Lesnes Abbey, at 12 noon & finishing about 3.30pm. All ages and abilities are welcome to come along and get involved in our free activities.
