Vuzix Glasses Bring Augmented Reality to Your Games, Face. Augmented reality that's fashionable and not clunky? Vuzix preps its latest headgear for a summer release. Though it's not quite as realistic as the military's Land Warrior program – a flip-down eyepiece that gives infantry soldiers instant access to maps, information and, most importantly, the view from a tiny video feed mounted to their guns –Vuzix is at least blending some kind of military application into its own SMART glasses. Military, that is, in the "Ghost Recon: Future Soldier" sense. That's the latest over-the-shoulder Tom Clancy shooter scheduled for debut in March of this year, and debuting alongside it – or possibly as late as summer of this year – is Vuzix's first monocle heads-up display in its Smart Glasses line of headgear technology.

What are smart glasses? Think "science fiction headset. " What you'll see when staring through the screen is simple: Augmented reality. There's no word on how much a SMART shade might cost – be it a single lens or a full pair of glasses. NEC Adds New MultiSync Monitor. NEC is expanding its MultiSync line with a new 24-inch widescreen, complete with ergonomic features and a wide array of connectivity options. NEC has pulled back the curtain on the second member of its MultiSync EA Series of desktop displays, the 24-inch MultiSync EA243WM.

The new monitor features a slim new look, and offers a wide array of connectivity options, ergonomic features, and tools to track and manage power usage. The 24-inch, 16:10 panel offers 1920-by-1200 resolution (better than 1080p) and 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Connectivity options abound with DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI-D and VGA ports on the back of the unit, and a 4-port USB hub integrated onto the side of the display.

The display twists and turns to meet all your ergonomic needs, pivoting between landscape and portrait modes, tilting forward and back, and up to 5.11 inches height adjustment. The NEC MultiSync EA243WM will be available this month, with an estimated MSRP of $399. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich For Motorola DROID RAZR Booted On Video. Advertisements A developer from the Android modding community has managed to boot the latest version of Android – 4.0.x Ice Cream Sandwich – on Motorola’s recently released DROID RAZR, Redmond Pie has learned. The news comes from AndroidSPIN – a blog dedicated to covering all things Android – in the form of a news post in which they discuss the port.

The port itself comes from Android hacker and developer DroidTh3ory. While the developer hasn’t provided any details other than the fact that it is Ice Cream Sandwich and it has been booted on the Motorola DROID RAZR, we do know that this will, in all probability, release before Motorola’s official update*. From DroidRZR: We have a successful boot of Ice Cream Sandwich on the DROID RAZR!! The ROM hasn’t been publicly released yet, and for good reason: this is just the first boot of Ice Cream Sandwich on the DROID RAZR and there are plenty of things that aren’t working smoothly.

Both elements are inseparable when it comes to good content and to be perfectly honest, the internet would be less interesting without pictures. The only slight problem is that sometimes these elements tend to clutter pages or make them very long. Just going through the home page of a popular website can be a trail on your reading and comprehension skills.

When browsing through blogs and content-rich websites, how many times have you actually read everything? People generally skim through items until they find the right thing to read. TableOfContents is a Google Chrome extension that makes navigation of webpages easier by allowing you to toggle the Table-of-Contents (ToC) for the said page. It creates an expandable Table-of-Contents list, which conveniently allows you to access the headings of lengthy articles.

Microsoft Replaces 'Flight Simulator' with Free, Fun 'Flight' Microsoft's Flight Simulator is dead. In its place is Microsoft Flight, which drops the "Simulator" label for what its developer unabashedly dubs a game - and a free one at that. In a bid to make the "Flight" franchise accessible to everyone, Microsoft has made the game free-to-play, allowing novice pilots to explore the Big Island of Hawaii. Scattered across it will be "gold rush" games, "aerocaches," and game missions, complete with rankings and experience points. The game is due to be released this spring. The goal of the game is to coat a stringent simulation with a fun, candy-coated shell. "If I can take anybody and make them feel like a pilot, we've succeeded," said Joshua Howard, the game's executive producer.

For years, games like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Flight Simulator X basically defined the flight simulator category, with the majority of rivals choosing instead to turn to combat flight simulators, which Microsoft also did. The cron daemon on Linux runs tasks in the background at specific times; it’s like the Task Scheduler on Windows. Add tasks to your system’s crontab files using the appropriate syntax and cron will automatically run them for you. Crontab files can be used to automate backups, system maintenance and other repetitive tasks. The syntax is powerful and flexible, so you can have a task run every fifteen minutes or at a specific minute on a specific day every year. Opening Crontab First, open a terminal window from your Linux desktop’s applications menu.

Use the crontab -e command to open your user account’s crontab file. You may be asked to select an editor. You’ll see the Nano text editor, identified by the “GNU nano” header at the top of your terminal window. If you’re not comfortable using vi, you can type :quit into vi and press Enter to close it. Adding New Tasks Use the arrow keys or the page down key to scroll to the bottom of the crontab file in Nano. 29 0 * * * /usr/bin/example. Ask Ziggy: Windows Phone 7′s New, Siri-Like Personal Talking Assistant. Even though people have compared Windows Phone 7’s TellMe with iOS’s Siri, the truth of the matter is that nothing TellMe does is as intuitive and attractive as Siri. Apple’s voice assistant has the edge over other voice recognition apps and software due to its conversational style. Developers came up with Iris on Android and a host of other competitors almost as soon as Siri was launched, and now the trend has started to seep into Windows Phone too.

Ask Ziggy is a free app, which, though nowhere near as polished as Siri, performs about the same tasks as Siri does. First of all, don’t be too disappointed by the app’s interface, as the developer of Ask Ziggy has promised that a new version of the app will soon be rolled out, having major interface improvements. Interface problems apart, the app works just fine even in its current version. However, Ask Ziggy is an app which is not just for fun. Ask Ziggy does not come with a lot of setup steps, or configurable settings. Advertisement. Google Doodles Page Revamped, Now Has Doodle Merchandise Store. It is no secret that Firefox can consume quite a bit of system memory during normal usage. While the number of tabs you have open and the installed add-ons certainly contribute, even a conservatively used out of the box installation can report quite a bit of memory usage. This has caused a few Firefox add-ons to surface which claim to free up memory the browser no longer needs, but do they actually work? New Form of Online Banking Fraud. If you thought you had your online banking security situation under control, along comes this chilling blog entry from security vendor Trusteer about some really nasty stuff they observed over the holiday break.

And especially for those of you that have chosen paperless statements, you want to read it carefully and understand the exploit. Basically, the bad guys have figured out a full-service series of attacks that take money from your debit card account and then proceed to show you a series of screens that cover up the transaction. They use a variety of malware tools to insert themselves in the middle of your transactions to steal your account information, then quickly debit your account.

The next time you login to your bank, you are seeing the faked screens that don't display this transaction. If you are still one of the people that receive the paper statements in the mail, you will spot it, but only if you are really careful about reconciling your account. Relive Some Bizarre Star Wars History with the Star Wars Holiday Special. Words cannot adequately describe just how weird the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special was; it had Bea Arthur, singing princesses, extended Wookie dialog, cartoon interludes, and more.

Seeing is believing and we’ve got a copy to share. The special centers on the adventures of the Star Wars cast surrounding Life Day, the Star Wars version of a Christmas holiday. Rather than describe the plot (which is tenuous at best), we’ll highlight a few of the things you’ll miss by not watching: extended (and painfully un-subtitled) Wookie dialog, a Wookie attempting to cook a meal watching an intergalactic cooking show, Bea Arthur (of the Golden Girl fame) doing a public service announcement for The Empire (including a song and dance) and the first appearance of Boba Fett. Does it sound too awesome to be contained in one Holiday special? Indeed, it does. The Star Wars Holiday Special [Wikipedia] Jason Fitzpatrick is warranty-voiding DIYer and all around geek.

Lessons Learned From Noisetrade: Free and Legal Music Downloads. When it comes to downloading digital music, there is free and then there is legal, but seldom can you have both from the same site, and make money too. Noisetrade.com has been doing this for the past three years. Certainly, there are lots of other music download sites, and we have written most recently about Soundcloud, as one example. But it is worth looking at what Noisetrade is doing to see what could be the ideal small-business content download site. The site has more than 300,000 albums downloaded per month, covering mostly indie artists. Noisetrade hasn't gotten much publicity but is making money, in the "few" hundreds of thousands of dollars annually, according to various press reports.
