The only true voyage . . . would be not to visit strange lands but to possess other eyes, to see the universe through the eyes of another, of a hundred others, to see the hundred universes that each of them sees.

—Marcel Proust, In Search of Lost Time When asked to define the "spaces for learning" on campus, most in higher education identify the classrooms or laboratories. But what about all the other spaces on campus? As students become increasingly digitally literate, higher education also needs to be concerned about the creation and support of virtual learning spaces. Changes. BRIGADA ESKWELA 2012: Making the School a Home for Learning By Teresita E. Sibayan, Principal I, Dampe Elementary School On May 21, 2012,Monday, students, teachers, parents, baranggay officials, and other concerned citizens gathered in front of the Dampe Elementary School to mark the start of Brigada Eskwela – an event which also signified the beginning of School Year 2012-2013.

A parade led by the PTA members through the aid of baranggay officials and other volunteers served as the preliminary activity on its first day. For the benefit of those who do not know what Brigada Eskwela is, here are some of its whereabouts: Brigada Eskwela at first glance is the modern day bayanihan. But Brigada Eskwela is a thing not just limited to the very concept of bayanihan where a transfer of one’s nipa hut from one place to another, or harvesting of one’s rice field is being made. (Part IV — Surveys show computers can damage preschool and grade school students) Can technology contribute to learning? I think it can, in the intermediate, grade school and high school... if a child has sufficient cognitive skills and social development; if technology is not substituting for important development experience; if we are not expecting it to do what it cannot do; if parenting and teaching retain priority; if technology complements a well-planned curriculum; if it does not steal funds from more important needs (e.g., early childhood education, arts programs); If we are judicious in planning and selection of software and activities; if parents and teachers are willing to provide a human “scaffold” for technology-assisted learning...

Over the course of the year, fundraising for Estudio Damgo program has been a large part of my role as a Project Manager. Looking at our cost estimate last August 2013, it was evident that we needed to think seriously about securing funds for the construction which was fast approaching.

We had little roll over funds from the first project, which would be used up by permitting and site mobilization costs. I took the initiative to get the local community involved by organizing an art walk and a benefit concert to bring more awareness and local support to our program. ARTWalk: Art for a Cause: November 14, 2013 Teaming up with the Fine Arts Department, Hersley Casero and I (as the HA experiment) organized a 7 venue exhibit in Dumaguate City featuring 34 artists and over 120 artworks. This was the largest show of its kind in the city. The show launched on November 14, 2013 at Captain Ribbers. Researchers at Salford University have determined that school layout can affect children’s learning. Shown: Salford University’s Peel building. Photo: Wikipedia/ParrotOfDoom A study of school design has discovered that school layouts can influence a child’s development by as much as 25 percent — positively or negatively — over the course of an academic year. The 751 pupils using 34 classrooms across seven primary schools in Blackpool were studied over the 2011-12 academic year by the University of Salford’s School of the Built Environment and architecture firm Nightingale Associates. [partner id="wireduk"]The results, published in Building and the Environment, revealed that the architecture and design of classrooms has a significant role to play in influencing academic performance.

Architect Peter Barrett, the study’s lead author, said: “This is the first time a holistic assessment has been made that successfully links the overall impact directly to learning rates in schools. Invited as keynote speaker during the 44th anniversary celebration of SEARCA inspired by the theme “Enhancing Partnerships in Education, Research and Knowledge Management towards Food Security in Southeast Asia, Education Secretary Armin Luistro talked about the importance of nutrition to the students’ performance and learning in school .”

Traditional Filipino Games or traditional games in the Philippines [1][2] are games commonly played by children, usually using native materials or instruments. In the Philippines, due to limited resources of toys of Filipino children, they usually come up on inventing games without the need of anything but the players themselves. With the flexibility of a real human to think and act makes the game more interesting and challenging.

A few years ago, kids used to gather in the streets or in their neighborhood playground to play their favorite Larong Pinoy games like piko, patintero, taguan, tumbang preso, siato, luksong tinik, etc. These has been their regular and popular pastimes, as well as the favorite games of their parents and grandparents until new and modern forms of entertainment has taken over the interests of young kids. There are over forty (40) known Filipino games, and many of these are as challenging and competitive as Western games. Patintero[edit] Tumbang Preso[edit] Filipino Kid's Play, Plaything and Playground. Like an inventor they will exhaust their vivid and prolific imagination, energy and time to the hilt in crafting their own toys using limited resources they can find around them, like for instance, empty cans and spare wood which they will use to make vehicles, lanterns that maybe use as a flashlight complete with a handle and candle inside it (during the Halloween) or any musical instruments like drums (perfect for the Christmas Season), worn out flip-flops or slippers which they transform into boats during rainy days, plastic or sheet of papers, strings and spare bamboo to make their kites that could soar like a majestic Philippine Eagle (the second largest in the world), and unused papers to create their own Origami versions of assorted planes, boats, spaceships, boxes and the likes, and uses other indigenous materials to make their own toys that they will certainly enjoy.

All photos by Ace Tamayo CEBU, Philippines – It was raining and the kids were outside waiting for my van to arrive. They ran outside the gate as the van entered what was left of their school. I stepped outside the van and teachers started telling the kids to go back to their “classrooms.” Nine weeks after super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) barreled through most of the Visayas, the municipality of Medellin in northern Cebu was also damaged.
