Chicken Fried Steak (Recipe) - Mommy Like Whoa. I’ve waited a long time to share this recipe… it’s that secret. My husbands favorite meal is Chicken Fried Steak. It’s my go to “I’m sorry” meal, or my “I know you’ve had a rough week” meal or even just an “I love you” meal. I HATE to make it. Really, I do. A.) reeeeaallly love chicken fried steak, or b.) have some serious sucking up to do to even want to attempt it. I made it once after I broke our 55″ 3D TV, on accident (I cannot stress this enough) and I literally saw Charlie’s heart ripped from his chest, kinda like the Queen does in Once Upon A Time… it was pretty similar.
If making ridiculously amazing food is my love language, than this was the ultimate sign of submission. He doesn’t get it as often as he likes, because I’m rarely wrong (heh) but Charlie’s birthday warrants it, and as you know, it was his birthday on Monday. What I am about to share with you, you need to take to your grave, it’s that top secret… Mommy Like Whoa’s Chicken Fried Steak Take a look at that crunch! Poulet à la Moutarde (Mustard Chicken Recipe) With summer finally drawing to a close and the first day of fall only days away, the sun is migrating south in the sky and taking its sweltering heat with it. As the warmth wanes, the crisp autumn breeze sets trees ablaze in shades of yellow and vermillion in an ironic farewell to the warmer months of the year. I love this time of year, not just for the respite from the oppressive heat of summer, but because it signals the return of my desire to cook. I decided to kick autumn off this year with a delightfully rustic French braise: Poulet à la Moutarde.
While French food is notorious for being laborious, this dish only takes about 15 minutes of actual work. The rest of the time is spent in the oven morphing a few simple ingredients into one of the most unexpectedly delicious meals I’ve had in a long time. Usually when a pan ends up looking like this, it means that something went horribly wrong, but this is what gives Poulet à la Moutarde its characteristic flavor. Equipment you'll need:
Jalapeño Cheddar Rolls. As a kid, one of my favorite snacks after a long day at school, was a piece of Jalapeno cheese bread from the supermarket. It was a free-form loaf covered in a crusty lava flow of caramelized cheddar, studded with slices of pickled jalapenos. I relished the way one bite would be an explosion of nutty caramelized cheddar, while the next bite might light my mouth on fire with a rush of capsaicin and vinegar. Beneath the crust, the tender bread hid pockets of cheddar that made eating a piece a bit like mining for gold. The other day I was craving this childhood favorite, but given how much pickled jalapenos cost here, I decided to do a more elegant take on the rustic loaves I grew up on. This is essentially a brioche-based cinnamon roll with the cheese and jalapenos substituted in for the cinnamon and sugar.
Rolled up, sliced and stuffed into a brownie pan, the dough erupts into towering rolls of buttery bread layered with cheese and jalapenos. Nutrition by: Mission: Food: The Greatest Dish on Earth: Manti. Some of you may be wondering, what is Victoria's favorite dish?
Really, what is it? Sometimes that's difficult to answer, because there are so many foods I enjoy! I can formulate a short list of foods I would consume in my last week on Earth if that helps: French onion soup, eggs Benedict, chicken tikka masala, beluga caviar (straight-up or on some bread with butter), baked macaroni and cheese, and of course the ultimate in awesome food, my childhood favorite with an eternal place in my heart, the dish that both of my grandmothers have made for me and with me, where I learned the art of cooking, my ever-so beloved manti, the greatest dish on Earth. Did I lose you yet? I'm sure many of you have never heard of this dish, but if you've heard of it, or had the pleasure of eating it, you probably know where I'm coming from, and why I feel so strongly about it. There are actually two kinds of manti. Manti Serves 4 to 6 Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Tex Mex Black Eyed Pea Casserole. So what’s the story with Black Eyed Peas supposedly bringing good luck to all who eat them in the New Year anyways?
I guess Black Eyed Peas are a Southern thing. This southern California girl had never actually (knowingly) tasted a black eyed pea before dinner last night, and I quite liked them. I put them in a Tex Mex Black Eyed Pea Casserole. It’s one last hurrah of a comfort-food dish before the New Year begins. And it’s family- friendly too. There they are in all their glory. Black Eyed Peas. I read a lot about black eyed peas and how to prepare them before I attempted this dish. I added bacon to this recipe. This is the 3rd thing you’re going to do: prep the rice. Then dump the almost-done rice in a bowl. Spread it into a casserole dish and bake for 20 minutes. Ta Dah! There’s good ‘ol down-home comfort right there. Add a little sour cream, cilantro and sliced avocado, and your dish is complete!

Pickles-Ferments. The Food Lab: Real Texas Chile Con Carne. [Photographs: J. Kenji Lopez-Alt] The last time I tackled chili was nearly two years ago, and boy, what a contentious post that was! It's always a gamble to call something "the best ever," but to use that expression to describe chili—perhaps the single most contentious, zealotry-inducing, divisive food in the country—is just asking for trouble.
For the record, my recipe ended up including tomatoes, star anise, chocolate, coffee, anchovies, soy sauce, marmite, and yes, even beans (the horror!). Well, Texans, today I aim to make it up to you. The Meat The original chili was made with dried beef pounded together with suet and dried chilies into a sort of pemmican-like dry mix intended to last a long time and be quick and nutritious for cowboys to rehydrate and stew up out on the range. What we're looking for here is a meat that's good for stewing—that is, rich in connective tissue and fat and high in flavor.
Cut and Sear As for searing, there's always a trade-off. The solution? Stewed Up. Crunchy Chicken Cutlets with Buttermilk Gravy Recipe. Recipe: Green Goddess Dressing. Avocado Lox Summer Rolls Recipe | Fresh Tastes Blog | PBS Food. One of my favorite kitchen exercises is to take a dish from one region of the world and reimagine it as something from somewhere else on this awesomely diverse planet we live on.
The rice paper wrappers used for Vietnamese summer rolls are particularly well suited for this as they make for the perfect vessel to hold just about anything you might want to fill them with. These avocado lox summer rolls with a tangy honey mustard sauce are the sort of thing that might emerge from the kitchen if you merged a pho shop with a Jewish deli. Along with the lox and avocado, there’s crisp mizuna greens and cucumbers, and instead of the usual garlic chives, mint and cilantro, I’ve stuffed these rolls with red onions, dill and flat-leaf parsley. The sauce still retains the sweet and sour tastes of the original, but infuses lemon peel, mustard and caraway for a delightfully bright sauce that’s a perfect compliment for the fragrant herbs in the roll. Second, don’t over soak the wrappers. Ingredients. Traditional napa cabbage kimchi (Tongbaechu-kimchi) recipe. Hello everybody! Today I’m going to show you how to make classic, spicy, traditional napa cabbage kimchi called tongbaechu-kimchi, a.k.a. baechu-kimchi or pogi-kimchi.
But this dish is so common and iconic among Koreans that we simply call it “kimchi.” When people talk about kimchi, this is the dish they’re referring to, despite the fact that there are many kinds of kimchi in Korean cuisine, and many made with napa cabbage, too. Over the years I’ve posted recipes for a few of them, but I’ve never made an in-depth video for making tongbaechu-kimchi! I’ve made a video for mak-kimchi (easy kimchi), which is very similar but is easier because you to chop up the cabbage first, and I’ve made an ultra simple yangbaechu-kimchi (emergency kimchi). This kimchi uses the whole cabbage leaf, which makes it more labor-intensive than the other ones on my website, because you’ll need to take time to spread the spicy paste leaf by leaf.
Ingredients For making porridge: Vegetables: Seasonings and spices: Creamy Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies. Mission: Food: Roasted Corn and Black Bean Salsa. Summer has been flying by this year. I can't believe July is already almost over! Towards the latter part of summer, a surplus of fresh corn simply begs to be grilled, roasted, and boiled. It's a wonderful ingredient to add a taste of summer to nearly any dish. I love using fresh corn, whether I'm making creamy and luscious corn soup or a truly unique pasta sauce featuring corn crema, pizza topped with cherry tomatoes and corn or a corn risotto.
Corn is a great ingredient for delicious snacks as well. Canned black beans create a nice base for this salsa, although if you're able to cook your beans from scratch they will obviously have more flavor. This is an excellent late summer snack and accompaniment for a variety of grilled proteins. Roasted Corn and Black Bean Salsa Makes about 1 3/4 cups (Adapted from Salsas and Moles) Lightly coat the corn with oil.
