JISC Digital Media - Case study: Screencast Assistance at the University of Bristol
Credit - JISC Digital Media Among other roles, the Education Support Unit (ESU) at the University of Bristol provides support and training in the use of Blackboard, the University's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Following the implementation of a new version of Blackboard the ESU approached JISC Digital Media for help in creating a set of screencast resources to support their users in the transition. Having tried screencasting a few times before with mixed results, JISC Digital Media was asked to use its expertise to assist ESU in planning, producing and delivering the project, including developing templates and providing training for future projects to ensure sustainability. Objectives ESU wanted to create a set of screencast user guides and FAQs which would help orientate users to the new environment, and supplement their existing written guides and Helpdesk service. This article reports on the results of a study undertaken into innovative practices in the development and uses of eLearning for teachers and trainers, and the activities, competencies and roles used in such practices. 25 case studies were purposively selected across 7 countries and included both small scale and large scale projects, including some with a national focus. Results revealed that in nearly half of the projects blended learning was the strategy of choice, but that other approaches included virtual classrooms, tele-teaching and collaborative learning. A diversity of strategies towards the management of e-Learning projects were revealed, with some organisations struggling when moving from single authored to team delivered projects.

Course choice is an important part of the progression of transforming a potential student into a successful undergraduate. Yet the processes and materials of course choice have attracted little attention, it being assumed that the activity will involve an adviser discussing choices and directions with a potential students using course descriptions. Such discussions are expensive and there is evidence that potential students do not always take advice.Moodle: Staff Development Online | Datblygiad Staff Ar-lein

My school district is going full steam ahead Moodle and at this point I'm driving the train. My current challenge is finding the best way to use Moodle to handle what would normally be in person half-day trainings for staff development. I'm posting my current thoughts here in hopes of some feedback/opinions... I have a lot to learn about using Moodle and the learning never ends. Anyway... 3.I am currently writing my Masters' Thesis on Implementing an LMS in a Secondary School Environment. One of the areas I am focusing on, I have found very little detailed information and was wondering if anyone here had experience with or could provide resources on using Moodle for Professional Development of teachers. I have found a lot of detailed first hand experiences, as well as examples of Professional Development on how to use Moodle in the classroom, but not so much on using Moodle to facilitate the Professional Development of teachers either on a district-wide or school-wide PD plan for topics such as: Data-Driven Decision Making, Rigor and Relevance, and Differentiated Instruction. I am particularly interested in any research or experiences on how an LMS helps centralize Professional Development topics and allows administrators to more accurately reflect on the effectiveness of PD for teachers.
