25 Ways to Talk So Children Will Listen

The way you talk to your child teaches him how to talk to others. Here are some talking tips we have learned with our children: 1. Connect Before You Direct Before giving your child directions, squat to your child’s eye level and engage your child in eye-to-eye contact to get his attention. 2. Open your request with the child’s name, “Lauren, will you please…” 3. We use the one-sentence rule: Put the main directive in the opening sentence. 4. Use short sentences with one-syllable words. 5. If he can’t, it’s too long or too complicated. 6. You can reason with a two or three-year-old, especially to avoid power struggles. 7. Instead of “no running,” try: “Inside we walk, outside you may run.” 8. Instead of “Get down,” say “I want you to get down.” 9. “When you get your teeth brushed, then we’ll begin the story.” 10.

Instead of hollering, “Turn off the TV, it’s time for dinner!” 11. Fresh Ideas for Outdoor Play. By Handmade Charlotte | Now that summer has arrived, the backyard is the central spot for family activities.

A Little More Organizing

~One thing about our home is that it's constantly changing. Cleaning and organizing is just a fact of life. Remember my favorite motto from Bissell; "Life's messy, clean it up"? I always have to remind myself of that! I do have a confession to make....I do love the organizing part. But, loving organizing things can also be a curse. Like the following shelf, for example. The other baskets in my closet hold tanks, t shirts, etc.

Do you ever find yourself shopping for furniture or textiles for your home and wish that you had a your paint colors with you to refer to?

Customizable Paint Deck

I know I do. Here's an quick, portable, $2 project to remedy that. Start by taping off a group of paint stirrer sticks from the hardware store. Grab your different wall colors. I keep a little of each one in labeled mason jars above my microwave. Paint the bottom portion of the stirrer sticks. Add a metal ring. Write the names and brand of your paint on the backside of each stick.

She even has the template you can download! I decided to make my pattern a little bigger (because I'm lazy and didn't want to paint as much!) So I enlarged it before I printed it. If you're like me you don't have hours and hours to spend on any project so I would paint a few then wrap my paint up tight in a bag to keep it from drying out. Works great!! Let me just say that my wall is FAR from perfect but the great thing is you really can't see the imperfections unless you really get close and stare for an awkward amount of time.

Nobody looks that close... except for maybe your mom... and your sister... but that is only because they are trying to figure out how you did it so they can copy you! Don't let the fear of imperfection stop you from doing this!
