academic grade conversions

http://www.studyinbritain.com/info/grade_conversion.asp The grading system in the UK can create agonies for American Students. If a normally straight-A student recieves a 70 on his/her first paper, it's difficult to accept that a 70 in UK-terms is an A or a first. So here's a comparison to help prepare you for the grading shock! Students with an average of 70 or higher are awarded a first-class honours degree (equivalent to an A ).

World Englishes: Implications for International Communication and English Language Teaching

http://www.tesl-ej.org/wordpress/issues/volume12/ej46/ej46r9/ September 2008 — Volume 12, Number 2 Varieties of English is a topic which has motivated much research and many publications, all investigating the relation between language and culture, language and identity, language and status. There are already numerous compendia which enumerate varieties of English found in today’s world and contain thorough descriptions and meticulous analyses of characteristic features of each variety. Examples include the 2388-page Handbook of Varieties of English (Kortmann & Schneider, 2005), the 2000-page, four volume Varieties of English.
The Language Testing Resources site was first published on 1 May 1995, and the first frames version of the site was launched on 20 July 1996. Both of these sites were basic, and so the second frames version with much improved navigation was released on 26th March 2001, and was substantially upgraded in March and April of 2004 and August 2008. The use of frames started to go out use in web site design from around 2005. I didn't abandon frames quickly, as I liked the consistent look and feel that it provided.
