Painting Tip - Painting on Gray Days
Hi guys, if you've ever looked out on a gray day and been at a loss for painting subjects, this one's for you. Gray days have a few strong advantages over sunny days: 1. The local colour of your objects are more easily seen and the lights are not blasted out by the sunlight which allows for richer colour all over. 2. The light is more constant and the change in the sun's position through the day becomes less important and less restrictive.

Somos todos fractais, completamente imperfeitos e geometricamente perfeitos. Os contornos das montanhas, a superfície dos pulmões humanos, a trajetória das gotículas de água quando penetram na terra - existe uma infinidade de fenômenos na natureza que não podem ser descritos pela geometria tradicional toda certinha. É preciso apelar para complicados cálculos que resultam nas chamadas dimensões fracionárias. Os fractais são formas geométricas abstratas de uma beleza incrível, com padrões complexos que se repetem infinitamente, mesmo limitados a uma área finita.

Gavin is a real character! His dynamic enthusiasm is perfect for a series of lessons on creating movement in art. Inspired by the upcoming Olympic Games in London, Gavin explores the human movement in gymnasts, tennis players and dancers.In this video Steve recreates parts of an unbelievable portrait of a Greek national lady in coloured pencil. The challenge when filming artwork like this is that is can take tens of hours to produce, and even the most passionate student doesn't have the time or inclination to watch for that length of time... So we had Steve reproduce 3 small key areas of the painting (the left cheek/eye area, the hair, and the background). The result is that you get all the instruction without having to sit for hours, and seeing the original piece permanently on camera gives you that sense of completion. I've added the first video (set up and materials) and the eye/cheek area video below.
