By Kate on February 28, 2013 H ello there! Minieco feels a bit neglected at the moment :/ However behind the scenes I have been crafting my little heart out. I’ve been bead-weaving, sewing, dyeing, printing, woodworking, macramé-ing and paper-crafting my way through 30 new projects for my new book (I’m 2/3 of the way through the project list so hope to be posting a lot more in April).
Here, I’ll show you how to make an origami heart out of a dollar. There are many different patterns out there and this one is sometimes called change of heart. You’ll need a dollar bill or any U.S. paper currency. For this video however I’m going to be using a piece of paper approximately twice the size of a dollar so you can see what's going on more clearly.
I posted this tutorial a few years ago and it has become somewhat of a tradition to bring it back every year! One of our family Easter traditions is dying eggs with pieces of silk. I saw a cute lady show Martha how to do it a few years ago and I ran upstairs right then to steal a tie! It’s way cooler than those cups of neon liquid that end up all over your clothes, your furniture and your hands plus it gives you an excuse to rid a man’s closet of ugly ties. Here’s the run-down: You need 100% silk for this to work.
