This fairytale castle is the historical seat of the Prussian Kings and German Emperors. I came across the work of this amazing studio a short while ago, and couldn't wait to share some of their projects. Thus, a brand new series has begun—starting with a well-planned, warm and woodsy lakeside home called Stone Creek Camp . Set into the sloping landscape in a very non-intrusive manner, this beautiful, remote, rustic and modern home welcomes with an intriguing entryway of stone and stacked wood pieces... The path you see leads to the three main areas—the main lodge, guest house and the master house. The materials utilized create quite a beautiful and warm feeling—stone walls and stainless steel, combined with concrete and wood, and glass.

The Cement Factory was discovered in 1973, it was an abandoned cement factory and partially in ruins, comprised of over 30 silos, underground galleries and huge engine rooms; Ricardo Bofill bought it and began renovation works. He identified the program; The Cement Factory was to be used as architectural offices, archives, a model laboratory, and exhibition space, an apartment for him, as well as guest rooms and gardens. He defined the space by demolishing certain structures, cleaning cement, exposing previously concealed structures and creating the landscape architecture by planting various plants such as eucalyptus, palms, olive trees and cypresses; renovation works lasted nearly two years. Bofill imagined the future spaces and created a layout according to the different aesthetic and plastic predispositions that had developed since WWI and were present within the factory.

The designing firm, Arch11 was founded in 1993 by James Trewitt and E.J. Meade, and is based in Boulder and Denver Colorado. Arch11 goes beyond seemingly restrictive site parameters to produce the above home on a syncline landscape. The geological definition of a syncline is a fold or crease in landscape caused by the rise of an ancient sea bed over time. The architects strategized to have the home reflect its site, which is a threshold between the city and nearby mountain park area.

The Pierre « Below The Clouds
The Pierre is one of the most beautiful houses I’ve seen in a long time and its view over the San Juan Archipelago is incredible! The house celebrates the materiality of the site and that combined with a green roof makes the house blend with the surrounding, making it almost invisible from certain angles. I’m having a hard time finding anything wrong with the exterior or the interior for that matter. The interiors combination of older looking, inviting furniture stands in wonderful contrast with the raw concrete walls.

Located within the Huilo Huilo Private Natural Reserve,Chile, the hotel is nestled among the natural world. The Magic Mountain Hotel in the heart of the Huilo Huilo nature reserve. The architecture, combined with the forest setting, makes this truly a magical mountain.This hotel was made to look just like a volcano on the outside and has a waterfall which cascades down its windows and rocky walls. Wood and stone spiraled staircases as well as wooden walls and furniture are just some of the natural decorations you’ll see in and around the hotel. Hot Tubs made out of tree trunks are located in the forest; they are one of the biggest natural attractions at Magic Mountain. Link 1 Link 2
Two students working on load-bearing systems in the architecture department at Kassel University, Mischa Proll and Andreas Günther, have taken advantage of the wide range of design techniques available and breathed new life into a one-hundred-year-old construction concept. The traditional reziprocal frame consists of short wooden joists, whose ends are carpentry-joined to a surface structure. With consistant types of profiles, lengths of elements and positions of the knots on the axises, a dome shape is created. The first documenting of such a framework, also called a „mandala roof“, dates back to the 12th century, according to the students' research, when a Buddhist monk by the name of Chogen created designs for temples, whose influence can still be seen today in the architecture of domes in China and Japan. The variation of individual parameters, for instance changing the join between two elements, leads to a change in all the other subsequent joins.
