Visual and Spatial Games | HAPPYneuron brain training. Memory Games There are several different types of memory: "Working memory" processes information over a span of about 15 seconds, "short-term memory" retains information for up to about 60 seconds and "long-term memory" stores information indefinitely. Sustained practice with memory games helps to strengthen your memory functions. Attention Games Attention and focus are critical skills that help us to absorb, process and memorize information. Attention is also involved in processing the details, in understanding a written text and in mentally searching for a particular word or term.

Language Games The ability to use language well is an important part of human cognition and, in contemporary society, verbal skills are of paramount importance. Reasoning Games Games that challenge our executive functioning help to train and sharpen the highly complex cognitive processes of logic, strategic planning, problem solving, and deductive reasoning. Mindfulness. Being mindful helps us to train our attention. Our minds wander about 50% of the time, but every time we practise being mindful, we are exercising our attention "muscle" and becoming mentally fitter. We can take more control over our focus of attention, and choose what we focus on...rather than passively allowing our attention to be dominated by that which distresses us and takes us away from the present moment. Mindfulness might simply be described as choosing and learning to control our focus of attention. In a car, we can sometimes drive for miles on “automatic pilot”, without really being aware of what we are doing. In the same way, we may not be really “present”, moment-by-moment, for much of our lives: We can often be “miles away” without knowing it. When I wash the dishes each evening, I tend to be "in my head" as I'm doing it, thinking about what I have to do, what I've done earlier in the day, worrying about future events, or regretful thoughts about the past.

Clouds in the Sky. A Free Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy Course | Wise Ways To Happiness. Posted by George Shears | Filed under Mindfulness Basics As a result of the amazing generosity of Jay Uhdinger, I’m very happy to share with you a basic video course in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). I became aware of this impressive, high quality resource via an email from Mr.

Uhdinger with this introduction: Together with a friend who is an illustrator, I have created a 100% free (no catch, no email subscription or whatever) mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) course. . . I have to stress this again… this is 100% free and my whole interest is that people learn about these essential concepts because they can rock their world (as they rocked mine).

The lessons are easy to understand, come as videos with illustrations and I also cite the Psychology studies that I used as sources. MBCT has changed my life and that’s why I would be happy if more people would learn about it. It is a pretty powerful combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness meditation. MBSR Guided Audio Exercises - UC San Diego Health System. Participants in the MBSR Program receive a set of CDs containing guided mindfulness practices. In addition to those basic CDs, the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness has prepared a number of other, shorter practices that are available here in MP3 format. Please feel free to download and/or share these guided practices. To download one of the files, please right click on the title and select "Save Target As" from the popup selection. This will then prompt you to select a location on your desktop to save the file to. Please note: These MP3 files are rather large. 45 Minute Body Scan guided by Steven Hickman (55 Mb) This is the "regular" Body Scan that is on the basic set of CDs given to all participants.

(Mono) 45 Minute Body Scan guided by Steven Hickman (33 Mb) This is a smaller file (mono) version of the Body Scan above. 20 Minute Body Scan guided by Steven Hickman (27Mb) This is a shortened version of the standard 45-minute Body Scan used in the MBSR course. Mindfulness Online Course. Up to now, most programs have taught mindfulness meditation in a setting that is paid and face-to-face. This approach limits the number of people who can take advantage of this training.

This online course is designed to make this practice available to many people who find it impractical or impossible to attend regularly scheduled courses outside of their home. This online course would take less time than required for most people just to commute to a formal class. All one needs is twenty to forty minutes a day (less in week 1) for the formal practice and to be mindful during other routine activities.

You will need access to a computer (and preferably a mp3 or voice/cassette recorder to download/record the audio instructions from the computer) or a smart phone . You can also print out the written instruction to read later. Catalog Description: Mindfulness Meditation and related practices. -Eight weekly units of online instruction on the theory and practice. ( There is no set time. 1. 2. 4. Meditation’s Effects on Alpha Brain Waves. A new study out of Brown University has found that a form of mindfulness meditation known as MBSR may act as a “volume knob” for attention, changing brain wave patterns.

What is MBSR? Originally developed by a professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) is based on mindfulness meditation techniques that have been practiced in some form or another for over two millennia. The 8-week MBSR program still follows some of the same principles of the original Buddhist practice, training followers to focus a “spotlight of attention” on different parts of their body. Eventually, it is hoped, practitioners learn to develop the same awareness of their mental states. In the last 20 years, MBSR and a similar practice called mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) have been included in an increasing number of healthcare plans in the developed world.
