1st Grade. Grade 1 Common Core Math - Assessing Students. The goal of formative assessment is to gather information that can be used by the teacher and the students to guide teaching and learning. Teachers can use these tasks to review student understanding and use that to make short and long term instructional plans.The goal of summative assessment is to measure the level of success or proficiency that has been obtained at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against a standard or benchmark. Teachers can choose to score these tasks and use them as a grade in summative manner.The tools below along with the assessment tasks on each standard's assessment page are provided for teacher use.
