This influential figure will be responsible for overseeing the work of Surrey Police and holding the Chief Constable to account on behalf of residents. The Commissioner will replace Surrey Police Authority, the group of 17 councillors and independent members of the public that currently oversees Surrey Police. The Police Authority will continue to work as normal until the election . The Authority’s support staff will be working over the next year to make the necessary arrangements to make the transition to the Police and Crime Commissioner as smooth as possible.
